What it costs, how graduates fare

Tuition2025-26

$56,600 full-time · plus $80 annual fees

Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance.

Bar passageclass of 2025

64.6%first-time−12.1

76.7% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 62 of 96 first-time takers passed

83.2% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

Employmentclass of 2025

77 of 105 (73.3%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission

Ten months after graduation · 1 more in JD-advantage jobs · 18 still seeking

The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

First-year attrition2024-25

6.0% of the first-year class · 8 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

Not a starting salary.

$69,938 median one year after finishing · $100,524 after four

$107,773 is the national median at four years for the same credential

A College Scorecard median for 2017-18 and 2018-19 completers who received federal aid, measured a fixed number of years after they finished — not what this year’s graduates are being paid, and not a figure the school or the ABA publishes. The ABA collects no salary data at all.

Essays

  • Personal statementRequiredstart by Nov 10, 2026

This is your opportunity to tell your story, highlight your motivations for pursuing a legal career, and how Willamette aligns with your aspirations.

    Notes & source

'A personal statement is required as part of your application.' NO LENGTH LIMIT IS PUBLISHED ANYWHERE -- no page count, no word count, and no formatting, spacing or font instruction on the JD application page. Both page_limit and word_limit are left unset rather than guessed. The published prompt is a single sentence, quoted in full above; Willamette offers no list of suggested topics, no statement of what the committee hopes to learn, and no writing guidance of the kind several schools in this batch publish. THE PROMPT ASKS THE WHY-WILLAMETTE QUESTION AS ITS THIRD CLAUSE -- 'how Willamette aligns with your aspirations' -- so the required statement absorbs the why-us case and no separate why_x_essay row is recorded. NO PERSPECTIVE OR DIVERSITY STATEMENT AND NO OPTIONAL ESSAY is published for the JD programme, so those types are omitted rather than recorded as absent. ONE SPECIALISED USE IS WORTH KNOWING: applicants interested in Willamette's immigration law programme are told 'If interested, please include a brief explanation of your passion for immigration law in your personal statement', which routes a programme-specific pitch into the same document rather than into a supplemental essay.

  • AddendumOptionalstart by Nov 28, 2026
    Notes & source

WILLAMETTE PUBLISHES NO GENERAL-PURPOSE ADDENDUM INVITATION for the JD -- there is no named slot for explaining a low GPA, a score disparity, or a gap in the record, and no optional-materials section of the kind most schools in this data set offer. That is a real gap and is recorded as the school's silence rather than as a refusal. ONE ADDENDUM IS MANDATORY, BUT ONLY FOR ONE GROUP, AND IT IS EASY TO MISS BECAUSE IT SITS INSIDE THE PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION RATHER THAN THE APPLICATION CHECKLIST: part-time applicants 'follow the same process as full-time students. Additionally, they must include an addendum explaining why they are pursuing a part-time JD.' No length or format is specified for it. An applicant applying to both programmes should note that Willamette permits it -- 'Can I apply to both full-time and part-time programs? Yes. If offered admission, you'll need to choose one program' -- which implies the addendum is needed on any application naming the part-time track. NO CHARACTER AND FITNESS MATERIAL IS PUBLISHED ANYWHERE on the JD application pages: no question set, no disclosure instruction, no explanation requirement, no continuing duty to update, and no ABA Standard 504 bar-admission caution. Against every other school in this batch, several of which reproduce their full question lists, that is the most complete silence on character and fitness recorded here. The questions presumably live inside the LSAC application form, which Willamette's public pages do not reproduce, but the school says nothing about them and an applicant with something to disclose has no published guidance at all. required is false because the only published addendum obligation is conditional on applying part-time.

Letters & documents

  • Letter of recommendation (1 of 2)Requiredstart by Nov 3, 2026
    Notes & source

'Provide two letters of recommendation through CAS. These letters should come from individuals who can speak to your academic abilities and intellectual capacity for law school, such as former professors or professional mentors.' Two is stated as the requirement rather than a minimum. NO MAXIMUM IS PUBLISHED -- Willamette does not say whether a third letter is accepted, ignored, or unwelcome -- so count_accepted is left unset rather than guessed. The recommender guidance is brief but names both an academic and a professional route ('former professors or professional mentors'), and does not express a preference between them or ask that any particular number be academic. Delivery is through the CAS letter service only.

    Notes & source

'Your resume should include your work history, any honors or awards, leadership experiences, and legal-related activities if applicable. This document should be submitted with your application.' Four named content areas, with legal experience explicitly optional ('if applicable') rather than expected -- a useful signal for career changers. No page limit or format is published, so none is recorded.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Oct 2, 2026
    Notes & source

BOTH TESTS ARE ACCEPTED WITHOUT PENALTY, AND WILLAMETTE ACTIVELY POINTS APPLICANTS AT THE GRE: 'All JD applicants, domestic and international, must register with the CAS and take either the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) or the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The LSAT is offered multiple times a year; however, early testing is encouraged. The GRE is available year-round at over 1,000 test centers worldwide.' The page even links a self-assessment, 'Take a quiz to see if the GRE is right for you'. No scholarship or eligibility consequence attaches to the GRE route, unlike Belmont in this batch. THE TIE-BREAK RULE IS THE ONE TO KNOW AND IT CUTS AGAINST GRE-FIRST APPLICANTS WHO LATER SIT THE LSAT: 'If you have taken both the LSAT and GRE, we will consider only the LSAT score if it is within the past five years.' So a strong GRE cannot rescue a weak LSAT taken within the window -- the LSAT simply displaces it. Willamette does not say what happens if the LSAT is older than five years and a GRE is current, though the sentence implies the GRE would then govern. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS ARE EXCLUDED FROM THE GRE ROUTE, which directly contradicts the 'domestic and international' phrasing above: the international section states flatly 'All international applicants are required to take the LSAT.' Both quotes were confirmed against the raw HTML on 2026-08-19 and are recorded rather than resolved per docs/CURATION.md; an internationally educated applicant holding only a GRE score should confirm with admissions before relying on the general rule. NO MINIMUM SCORE is published, and nothing is said about superscoring, averaging, or multiple sittings of either test. No JD-Next variance is claimed and the 509 prints no JD-Next row. The 509 shows the GRE route is real but small: 134 of the 139 first-years enrolled on an LSAT score and 5 on a GRE score, the latter below the ABA's under-10 publication floor, so no GRE percentile benchmark exists.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Nov 10, 2026
    Notes & source

'Submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions you have attended. These should be sent directly to CAS, not to Willamette.' CAS registration is required of every applicant, domestic and international. DEGREE REQUIRED, WITH AN INTERNATIONAL EQUIVALENCE RULE: 'Applicants to the JD program must hold a bachelor's degree. International applicants must possess a degree equivalent to an American undergraduate degree.' Willamette does not state whether an application may be filed during the final undergraduate year subject to the degree being conferred before matriculation -- a carve-out most schools in this data set publish explicitly -- so that is recorded as silence rather than read as a bar. NO MINIMUM GPA is published, and no guidance appears on how the undergraduate record is read: nothing about grade trends, institutional rigor, or major. The only published statement about evaluation is that 'Applications are reviewed holistically, ensuring every aspect of your experience and potential is considered.' THE DETAILED ENGLISH-PROFICIENCY TERMS on this page belong to the LLM and MLS programmes rather than to JD admission and are deliberately not recorded here; the JD international section addresses only the degree equivalence and the LSAT requirement. An internationally educated JD applicant would need to ask what English evidence, if any, is required.

Administrative

  • Application feeOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

THERE IS NO APPLICATION FEE, AND WILLAMETTE SAYS WHY: 'There is no additional application fee beyond the CAS report fee of $45. We want to ensure that financial considerations do not hinder your ability to apply.' The 509 independently certifies 'Application fee $0', so both sources agree and required is recorded as false. Note the sentence is doing something slightly unusual -- it names LSAC's own $45 CAS report charge, which most schools leave unmentioned, so an applicant is not misled into thinking applying costs nothing at all. Because Willamette's own fee is zero there is no waiver process to document. SEPARATELY, AND MUCH LARGER: an admitted early decision candidate owes 'a $600 seat deposit due by January 18'. Willamette does not publish a deposit figure or deadline for regular admits.

  • InterviewOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

Recorded as the site's silence for JD admission, not as a statement that Willamette does not interview. The JD application section -- eligibility, when to apply, the five standard application steps, and the early decision, part-time, transfer and international variants -- describes no admissions interview of any kind, evaluative or informational, as fetched on 2026-08-19. ONE INTERVIEW IS MENTIONED ON THE SAME PAGE AND IT IS NOT A JD ADMISSIONS INTERVIEW, which is exactly the kind of thing that misleads a skim: for a specialised immigration law programme, 'Finalists will be interviewed remotely by the program director', alongside a Spanish-proficiency requirement. That is selection into a programme for applicants who have already applied, not a step in admission to the JD, and it is recorded here only so the distinction is on the record. Willamette also runs campus visits and open houses through its events portal, neither described as part of evaluation.
