What it costs, how graduates fare

Bar passageclass of 2025

68.9%first-time−10.1

79.0% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 71 of 103 first-time takers passed

76.3% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

Employmentclass of 2025

81 of 105 (77.1%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission

Ten months after graduation · 7 more in JD-advantage jobs · 13 still seeking

The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

First-year attrition2024-25

18.0% of the first-year class · 31 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

  • Personal statementRequired · 3 pgstart by Dec 11, 2026
    Notes & source

'A 2-3 page, double spaced, personal statement.' RECORDED AT THE TOP OF A PRESCRIBED RANGE. There is no ceiling phrase of the kind docs/CURATION.md requires, but this is prescriptive rather than advisory -- it is an item in a list headed 'A complete application consists of the following', not a sentence beginning 'typically' or 'we recommend'. That is the South Dakota and Atlanta's John Marshall judgment in that doc, and 3 is recorded because it is the length the school's own words permit. Worth comparing with the sister school: Widener Delaware publishes the same 2-3 page figure but frames it as 'Typically, personal statements are 2 - 3 pages', which is descriptive and is NOT recorded as a limit there. Same number, different force, different treatment -- which is exactly the distinction that doc is drawing. NO PROMPT IS PUBLISHED on the apply page: the length and spacing are the only guidance, with no question to answer and no suggested subjects. No why-Widener question is asked, so no why_x_essay is recorded.

  • Perspective statementOptionalstart by Dec 18, 2026

Optional - Diversity Statement explaining any characteristics that would allow the applicant to uniquely contribute to the Widener Law Commonwealth community.

    Notes & source

The school's single item of optional application material, and it keeps the older name: 'Diversity Statement'. Recorded as a perspective_statement because that is what the type covers under docs/DATA.md -- the post-2023 successor to diversity statements, with naming varying by school -- and as its own entry because it is reusable across schools, which is what the overlap detection is for. NO LENGTH, FORMAT OR FURTHER PROMPT IS PUBLISHED, which is notably thinner than the sister school's treatment: Widener Delaware's 'enhancement statement' runs to a paragraph of invited subjects and a suggested length. Here the applicant gets one sentence. The framing is contribution-focused ('characteristics that would allow the applicant to uniquely contribute') rather than experience-focused, so a statement written for another school may need reframing.

  • AddendumOptionalstart by Dec 29, 2026
    Notes & source

THREE NAMED TRIGGERS, EACH MANDATORY WHEN IT APPLIES -- the school heads the section 'Required Application Addenda' and lists them as 'You must submit an addendum with your application if you'. Recorded at required false because all three are conditional, but note the school's own word is 'must'. (1) A PRIOR LAW SCHOOL, with two things to address: 'Have previously enrolled in this or another law school's Juris Doctor program or conditional admissions program. The addendum should explain the circumstances under which you left your previous law school and how you are prepared to succeed in law school now.' The second half -- how you are prepared to succeed NOW -- is a forward-looking demand most schools do not make. (2) MILITARY SEPARATION, which is unusually singled out as its own trigger rather than folded into character and fitness: 'Answered Yes to the question -- Have you ever been separated from any branch of the U.S. armed forces under less than honorable conditions? -- The addendum should explain of the circumstances that lead to your separation.' (3) CHARACTER AND FITNESS, recorded here because the taxonomy in docs/DATA.md has no such type: 'Answer yes to any of the character and fitness questions. The addendum must explain the circumstances surrounding the incident(s) necessitating the disclosure. It is very important that you answer these questions honestly, completely, and forthrightly. If you are in doubt as to whether to disclose information, it is better to err on the side of disclosure. Material misrepresentations and failures to disclose can lead to denial of admission, cancellation of acceptance, expulsion from law school, or revocation of the degree after conferral.' That consequence list runs all the way to revoking a conferred degree. NO LENGTH OR FORMAT is set for any of the three, and no general-purpose addendum slot is offered for score or grade explanations.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Nov 2, 2026
    Notes & source

EITHER TEST, WITH NO ONE-WAY RULE AND NO QUOTA -- which makes this the more open of the two Widener schools by a wide margin: 'A valid Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) score with writing sample or a valid Graduate Record Examination (GRE) score (GRE DI Code 3437). The score must be less than 5 years old.' Compare the sister school, Widener Delaware, where the GRE is capped at ten percent of the entering class and gated by four separate criteria including never having taken the LSAT. Here the two tests appear to be genuine alternatives, and the 2025 509 shows the GRE route in use, if barely: 158 LSAT admissions enrollees and 1 GRE admissions enrollee, together the class of 159. THE WRITING SAMPLE IS PART OF THE REQUIREMENT, not an afterthought -- the school asks for an LSAT score 'with writing sample', so an unwritten LSAT Writing leaves the requirement unmet. Five-year validity applies to both tests. NO MINIMUM SCORE and no policy on multiple scores -- neither a highest-score nor an averaging rule -- is published, which is a gap. JD-Next is not mentioned and no JD-Next row appears in the filing.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Dec 11, 2026
    Notes & source

'A LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS) Report with all post-secondary academic transcripts.' Every post-secondary institution, routed through CAS, consistent with the school's paperless LSAC-only process. A PRIOR LAW SCHOOL TRIGGERS DOCUMENTS AND A TIME BAR, and the bar is twice as long as Western State's: 'you must request that your previous law school send an official copy of your law school transcript and a letter of standing. Please note that if you were academically dismissed from this or another law school, at least two years must have elapsed between the date of your disqualification and the date of your matriculation at this law school.' Note the two years run to MATRICULATION, not to application, so an applicant can apply earlier than the bar suggests. That is a materially different position from the sister school's -- Widener Delaware refuses such applications outright ('Delaware Law does not accept applications from students who have been academically disqualified from and are not in good standing at their previous law school'), where Commonwealth accepts them after two years. NO BACHELOR'S-DEGREE STATEMENT, no final-transcript deadline and no international credential policy appears on this page, though the school maintains a separate page for non-US citizens.

  • Letter of recommendation (1 of 2)Requiredstart by Dec 4, 2026
    Notes & source

'Two Letters of Recommendation (LORs) submitted through CAS are required; however, the Admissions Committee will review up to three LORs. For an applicant currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate school, at least one letter of recommendation should be an academic letter of recommendation.' Both numbers published, with the academic requirement scoped to applicants still in school -- so a career changer is free to send two professional letters. Delivery is through CAS only, consistent with the paperless process. Note the difference from the sister school: at Widener Delaware letters are optional and capped at three; here two are required and the cap is the same.

Administrative

  • Application feeRequiredat submission
    Notes & source

A $60 FEE THAT THE PRIORITY DEADLINE WAIVES OUTRIGHT, AND THE WINDOW IS SEVEN MONTHS LONG: 'The application fee is $60.00. However, the application fee is waived for all applicants who apply on or before the priority admissions deadline of May 1st.' Applications open October 1, so an applicant has from then until May 1, 2027 to avoid the fee entirely -- only the final two months of the cycle carry a charge. The 2025 509 certifies the fee at $60. Recorded at required true because the fee applies by default; the waiver is a condition the applicant controls, the same structure as UDC's and the sister school's. NO SEPARATE HARDSHIP OR LSAC-BASED WAIVER PROCESS IS PUBLISHED, so a late applicant has no published route to relief. Note the contrast with Widener Delaware, whose waiver window closes on February 3 -- three months earlier than Commonwealth's for the same $60 fee at the same university.
