What it costs, how graduates fare
- Tuition2025-26
$54,840 full-time · plus $808 annual fees
$36,640 part-time
Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance.

- Bar passageclass of 2025
81.1%first-time−1.4
82.5% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 73 of 90 first-time takers passed
82.1% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating
A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

- Employmentclass of 2025
74 of 93 (79.6%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission
Ten months after graduation · 7 more in JD-advantage jobs · 1 still seeking · 1 of the bar-admission jobs are funded by the school
The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

- First-year attrition2024-25
14.0% of the first-year class · 20 students
No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

- Personal statementRequired · 3 pgstart by Jun 10, 2027
In the personal statement, you should focus on your accomplishments, skills, experiences and motivation that indicate potential for success in law school. Include any information such as extracurricular activities, career plans, leadership ability, or anything else that will help the Admissions Committee gain a clear and accurate picture of you as an individual.
Notes & source
A REAL CEILING WITH FORMATTING ATTACHED: 'The personal statement should be no more than three pages, typed and double-spaced.' 'No more than' is a ceiling phrase under docs/CURATION.md, so page_limit 3 with no judgment call. THE SCHOOL SAYS HOW MUCH IT MATTERS, in a sentence that also concedes what matters more: 'Although academic history and the LSAT score are very important in the application review process, the personal statement is a vital factor as well.' The prompt is open and lists four suggested subjects plus 'anything else'; note it asks for potential for success in law school rather than for a narrative, which is a slightly different brief from most. NO WHY-WESTERN-STATE QUESTION is asked, so no why_x_essay is recorded. DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH THE FIVE-PAGE STATEMENT further down the same page -- that belongs to the non-J.D. programme described in the deadline note ('The statement should also be double-spaced and no longer than 5 pages in length'). Two different limits for two different programmes on one page is exactly the kind of thing that produces a wrong answer if read quickly.

- Perspective statementOptionalstart by Jun 17, 2027
Notes & source
'Diversity statement optional.' That is the entire published account -- three words on the requirements list, with no prompt, no length, no format and no indication of what the committee is looking for. Recorded as a perspective_statement because that is what the type covers under docs/DATA.md ('the post-2023 successor to diversity statements at many schools; naming varies'), and Western State is one of the schools that has kept the older name. Because it is reusable across schools, it is recorded as its own entry rather than folded into an addendum note: an applicant who has written one for another school can use it here, and that is exactly what the overlap detection is for.

- AddendumOptionalstart by Jun 28, 2027
Notes & source
'Addenda - As required.' Two words, and they are the whole of it: no subjects are named, no length is set, and the school does not say what would make an addendum required. Recorded at required false because the phrase is conditional on its face. NO CHARACTER-AND-FITNESS QUESTION SET, DISCLOSURE STANDARD OR BAR-ADMISSION WARNING IS PUBLISHED anywhere on the apply or FAQ pages -- unusual, since nearly every other school in this dataset prints at least the standard ABA Standard 504(a) notice. That absence is recorded as an absence rather than as a claim the school makes no such enquiry; expect a character section inside the LSAC application.

- LSAT or GRERequiredstart by May 2, 2027
Notes & source
A TEST IS MANDATORY AND THE GRE ROUTE IS ONE-WAY: 'All applicants must submit a standardized test score. The only standardized tests that Western State College of Law accepts are the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Applicants who have taken or will take the LSAT must submit their LSAT score(s). Applicants who have not taken the LSAT may submit their GRE scores. Applicants who have taken both the LSAT and GRE are encouraged to submit standardized test scores from both exams.' Read the second and third sentences together: an LSAT score taken OR PLANNED must be submitted, so the GRE is genuinely available only to someone who has never sat the LSAT and does not intend to -- the same structure Charleston, Elon and High Point publish, with 'or will take' making it slightly stricter. Note the third sentence softens the picture for anyone holding both: both scores are welcome, they simply cannot displace the LSAT. ALL GRE SCORES FROM FIVE YEARS MUST GO: 'Applicants who wish to submit GRE scores should send all scores from the past five years through their Educational Testing Service (ETS) account.' ETS school code 3375; LSAT scores route through LSAC. THE FILING SHOWS THE GRE ROUTE WAS NOT USED in the year reported: all 117 first-years are certified as LSAT admissions enrollees, with no GRE row and no JD-Next row -- so there is no published GRE benchmark here. JD-Next is not mentioned anywhere. THE LAST ACCEPTED SITTING IS PUBLISHED, which few schools state: 'Final LSAT test for the cycle - June 2027.' NO MINIMUM SCORE and no policy on multiple LSAT scores -- neither a highest-score nor an averaging rule -- is published, which is a gap next to so precise a submission rule.

- Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Jun 10, 2027
Notes & source
A FOUR-YEAR DEGREE BEFORE CLASSES START: 'Applicants must complete their 4 year undergraduate degree from an accredited College before starting law school. International students should work with the Law School Credential Assembly Service to prove they have earned a degree equivalent to that of an American 4 year college degree.' CAS is required twice over -- once as its own step ('Applicants must register with LSAC's Credential Assembly Service (CAS) and pay the appropriate fees to LSAC') and again as the transcript route ('All applicants must register for the LSAC's Credential Assembly Service (CAS) in order for us to access undergraduate and/or prior graduate degree transcripts'). LSAC IS THE ONLY WAY IN: 'We only accept electronic applications submitted through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC).' A PRIOR ACADEMIC DISQUALIFICATION CARRIES A ONE-YEAR BAR, counted from the dismissal rather than from the application: 'Applicants who have been academically disqualified or dismissed from another ABA accredited or California Bar Examiners law school may not restart as a first year law student until one year (two full semesters) after the date of disqualification or dismissal.' Note this is half the two-year bar Elon imposes for the same situation. TRANSFER AND VISITING ROUTES: 'Prospective transfer students must have grades from one year of law school in order to apply. Western State College of Law welcomes students who are in good standing at another ABA approved law school or California Bar Examiners' law school', and visiting students 'may do so by submitting a Letter of Permission from their law school.' The reference to California Bar Examiners' law schools -- state-accredited but not ABA-approved -- is unusual and reflects where this school sits.

- Letter of recommendation (1 of 2)Requiredstart by Jun 3, 2027
Notes & source
'Two letters of recommendation are required to be submitted through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service.' A TIMING DETAIL MOST SCHOOLS DO NOT PUBLISH, and it is worth building into a plan: 'LSAC forwards letters of recommendation to Western State once a week.' A letter that arrives at LSAC on the wrong day sits for up to seven more. 'Please do not send duplicate letters directly to Western State. If necessary, letters of recommendation may also be sent directly to Western State from the recommender' -- so a direct route exists as a fallback, but sending both ways is expressly discouraged. WHO SHOULD WRITE, SCOPED BY HOW RECENTLY YOU GRADUATED: 'Recommendations from professors are strongly recommended, especially if you have graduated with an undergraduate degree within the last five years.' No maximum is published, so no count_accepted is recorded.

- RésuméOptionalstart by Jun 24, 2027
Notes & source
'Resume - A resume is optional but highly recommended.' Recorded required false on the school's own words, with the recommendation noted. No page limit, format or content guidance is published. Worth weighing against the personal-statement prompt, which asks for 'extracurricular activities, career plans, leadership ability' -- material a résumé carries more compactly than an essay, which is probably why the school pushes it despite not requiring it.

- Application feeRequiredat submission
Notes & source
A $60 FEE, CERTIFIED IN THE FILING AND NEVER MENTIONED ON THE SITE. The 2025 509 certifies 'Application fee $60'; the how-to-apply page and the FAQ were both fetched and neither states a fee in either direction. Recorded as required true on the filing, with the site's silence noted -- this is one of the few schools in this batch that charges anything, so the silence matters. A WAIVER ROUTE EXISTS AND IS BURIED IN A CONTACT FORM. The request-information form on the apply page offers, as one of its reasons for contact, 'Requesting an application fee waiver (current year only)'. That is the only place a waiver is mentioned; no eligibility criteria, no process and no deadline is published, and the parenthetical suggests a waiver does not carry over if an applicant reapplies. A SECOND, AUTOMATIC WAIVER IS DESCRIBED IN THE FAQ, for a narrow case: an admitted student who cannot matriculate must reapply, and 'Readmission is not guaranteed; an application fee waiver to reapply will be granted, but tuition deposits from a prior term are not credited.' Note the asymmetry -- the fee comes back, the deposit does not. Deferrals are nearly closed: 'Deferrals are granted only in rare circumstances such as military deployments or major health emergencies, to students who have already deposited and registered for classes.'
