What it costs, how graduates fare

Tuition2025-26

$59,800 full-time · plus $950 annual fees

Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance. This school certifies a guaranteed-tuition programme.

Bar passageclass of 2025

90.0%first-time+9.8

80.2% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 170 of 189 first-time takers passed

96.5% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

Employmentclass of 2025

167 of 184 (90.8%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission

Ten months after graduation · 6 more in JD-advantage jobs · 3 still seeking

The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

First-year attrition2024-25

1.0% of the first-year class · 2 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

Not a starting salary.

$74,646 median one year after finishing · $129,021 after four

$107,773 is the national median at four years for the same credential

A College Scorecard median for 2017-18 and 2018-19 completers who received federal aid, measured a fixed number of years after they finished — not what this year’s graduates are being paid, and not a figure the school or the ABA publishes. The ABA collects no salary data at all.

Essays

  • Personal statementRequired · 3 pgstart by Nov 10, 2026

Reflect on your personal background and experiences and how they have shaped your values, motivations, and aspirations. Include how they will contribute to your success at Villanova Law and the legal profession.

    Notes & source

Prompt quoted from the Application Instructions PDF, the only page that publishes prompt text. Length: the How to Apply page and its JD Application Checklist say the statement may 'not exceed three typed, double-spaced pages' / 'not exceeding 3 pages double-spaced'; the Application Instructions PDF instead says 'does not exceed two-three typed, double-spaced pages.' The larger published figure is recorded here and the discrepancy noted. The checklist also states the statement may be on 'any topic.'

  • Optional essayOptional · 2 pgschool-specificstart by Nov 24, 2026

Therefore, applicants are encouraged to submit an optional essay (no longer than two pages, double-spaced) to share more about their interest in Villanova Law, as well as their qualifications, talents, perspectives, and goals. We invite you to illustrate how your background and aspirations align with our community and values.

    Notes & source

Listed on the How to Apply checklist only as 'Optional Essays' with no prompt; the prompt text above is from the Application Instructions PDF. The PDF introduces it with: 'The admissions process consists of a fair and comprehensive review of all applicants to determine potential success at Villanova Law and the legal profession. Admission assessment will consider all achievements, both academic and non-academic, to enroll students with a broad range of characteristics and perspectives. Considerations include, but are not limited to academic achievement, leadership and collaboration potential, ability to learn from experience, service to the community, ability to address systemic shortcomings, substantial experience with other cultures, and goal setting.' Recorded under the school's own label rather than as a why-school essay, though it invites the applicant's 'interest in Villanova Law.' Only one optional essay prompt is published, despite the checklist's plural heading. Villanova is a Catholic and Augustinian university, but no admissions page reviewed publishes a mission-, faith-, or Augustinian-specific application component; 'align with our community and values' above is the closest published wording.

  • AddendumOptionalstart by Nov 28, 2026
    Notes & source

The JD Application Checklist requires 'Explanations for any affirmative answer to character and fitness disclosure' as part of a complete application; the Application Instructions PDF adds 'If you answer "yes" to any of these questions on the application, you must provide a detailed explanation within your application. We caution you to err on the side of full disclosure.' The same PDF and the admissions FAQ also ask for a test-score explanation: 'If you have substantially different scores on multiple testing dates, you should provide an explanation discussing the discrepancy.' No length limit is published for either. The Character & Fitness page (villanova.edu/university/law/admissions/how-to-apply/character-and-fitness.html) addresses only bar admission requirements, not the application.

Letters & documents

  • Letter of recommendationRequiredstart by Nov 3, 2026
    Notes & source

'One letter of recommendation is required; two letters of recommendation are strongly encouraged. Letters of recommendation must be submitted through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service. We will accept up to a total of 3 letters of recommendation.' The three-letter cap appears only in the Application Instructions PDF; the How to Apply checklist lists one required letter and 'Additional Letters of Recommendation' under optional materials, both via the LSAC service. Neither page specifies whether recommenders should be academic or professional.

'A resume detailing all employment, extracurricular, and community service involvement.' The Application Instructions PDF adds that employment should include 'employment during the academic year as an undergraduate.' No page limit or formatting requirement is published.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Nov 10, 2026
    Notes & source

Applicants must participate in the LSAC Credential Assembly Service and be registered with CAS during the application year; a complete CAS report with official transcripts from any colleges, universities, junior or community colleges, and graduate or professional schools attended is required. A completed baccalaureate program, or its foreign equivalent, is required prior to matriculation. Per the Application Instructions PDF: the school requests the CAS report automatically once the application arrives and 'will not begin review of an application until all required transcripts have been received and processed by LSAC'; any post-secondary work outside the US (including its territories) or Canada must be evaluated through CAS, which routes it to AACRAO, except work done through a study-abroad, consortium, or exchange program sponsored by a US or Canadian institution and shown as such on the home transcript. The same PDF states that an applicant who matriculated at another US law school and was academically excluded or completed any graded first-semester course or exam will as a general rule be summarily denied, and should contact the Admissions Office before applying.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Oct 2, 2026
    Notes & source

LSAT only. The How to Apply page requires that an applicant have 'taken the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT)' and the Application Instructions PDF states 'Every applicant must take the LSAT and must register with the Credential Assembly Service (CAS).' Neither page offers the GRE as a JD admission test — recorded as the pages' silence, not as an explicit rejection; the only GRE mention anywhere on the How to Apply page concerns the MPA half of the JD/MPA program, where 'the GRE will be waived and the LSAT be used to satisfy admission to the program.' Score validity, per the Application Instructions PDF: 'We will accept LSAT results from any exam taken within the last five years prior to fall enrollment, i.e., June 2020 or thereafter for the class entering in fall 2026. The last LSAT test administration we will accept results from for the 2025-2026 application cycle is April 2026.' The admissions FAQ likewise answers 'April' to the last LSAT considered for the fall term. 'The Admissions Committee considers all LSAT scores; consideration may be given to the highest score' (the FAQ's wording is 'the most consideration may be given to the highest score'). The 2025 ABA Standard 509 report lists LSAT as the only admission test with reported enrollee scores.

Administrative

  • Application feeOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

'The $75 application fee has been waived for all first-year applicants.' Recorded as required false on the strength of that sentence, which names the fee and waives it in the same breath and carries no cycle qualifier — unlike Texas A&M's, which names the cycle it applies to. The $75 figure is what returns if the waiver lapses. The waiver is scoped to first-year applicants by its own wording; Villanova publishes no fee for its transfer or visiting routes, which is recorded as silence. LSAC's own CAS and registration charges are separate and Villanova does not address them.

  • InterviewOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

By invitation only; applicants may not request one. 'Interviews are currently by invitation only. We will interview as many applicants as we can, however, we will not be able to interview all applicants. If you are not invited to interview, your candidacy for admission is not adversely impacted.' An application must be complete before an invitation can be issued. Interviews begin in November and are scheduled throughout the cycle; invitations arrive by email and must be accepted or scheduled within seven days (the Application Instructions PDF says one week), after which the application is evaluated without an interview. Each interview runs about thirty minutes, is conducted by members of the Admissions Committee via Zoom or phone, and includes time for questions; on-campus interviews are not available. No formula or numerical criterion determines who is invited, and 'Any decision is possible after an applicant is interviewed.' Interviewed Early Decision candidates typically receive a decision within 1-2 weeks; after late November, interviewed Regular Decision applicants typically receive one within two weeks.
