What it costs, how graduates fare

Bar passageclass of 2025

75.7%first-time+20.7

55.0% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 84 of 111 first-time takers passed

81.3% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

Employmentclass of 2025

60 of 124 (48.4%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission

Ten months after graduation · 9 more in JD-advantage jobs · 22 still seeking

The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

First-year attrition2024-25

3.0% of the first-year class · 4 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

Essays

  • Personal statementRequiredstart by Mar 10, 2027
    Notes & source

Item 4 on the requirements list: 'Declaración Personal' -- personal statement. NO PROMPT, NO LENGTH, NO PAGE COUNT AND NO FORMAT IS PUBLISHED for it. READ THIS TOGETHER WITH HOW UPR ACTUALLY ADMITS, because the statement's role here is narrower than at any other school in this dataset. Admission is by a numerical ranking built from two things only -- the GPA percentile and the LSAT percentile -- and the personal statement is not among them. So the statement matters only if an applicant lands in the sixty positions immediately below the formula cut -- and for that group it matters a great deal. The school is explicit that the ordinary route is not discretionary at all: 'La Escuela de Derecho no atiende reconsideraciones de denegatorias. Ello debido a que la admisión no es discrecional. En su lugar, la oferta de admisión se basa en un rango numérico' -- the School does not entertain reconsideration of denials, because admission is not discretionary; the offer is based on a numerical ranking. NO WHY-UPR QUESTION is asked and no perspective statement is published as a separate document, though the Committee does weigh diversity among the discretionary factors -- see the admissions_stats note.

  • Optional essayRequiredschool-specificstart by Mar 24, 2027
    Notes & source

UPR REQUIRES A SUBSTANTIAL ACADEMIC WRITING SAMPLE, WHICH ALMOST NO OTHER SCHOOL IN THIS DATASET DOES, and it is much longer than any personal statement: item 5 on the requirements list is 'Escrito universitario o ensayo de 8-15 páginas' -- a university paper or essay of 8 to 15 pages. Recorded under optional_essay with required true, following the Wake Forest, Yale and UDC precedent in this dataset for a distinct required school-specific piece of writing; the type carries the category and the required flag carries whether it is compulsory. The range is prescriptive, in a numbered list of application elements, but no ceiling phrase is attached and the document is a submitted artifact rather than an essay written to a prompt, so no page_limit is recorded -- an applicant submitting existing coursework cannot trim it to a cap that the school has not set as one. NOTE WHAT IT IS AND IS NOT: 'escrito universitario' points at work already produced for a university course, with 'o ensayo' offering a purpose-written essay as the alternative. No subject, format or citation requirement is published. LIKE THE PERSONAL STATEMENT, IT IS READ ONLY FOR THE FIFTEEN DISCRETIONARY PLACES: the Committee 'examina la declaración personal o ensayo de presentación de la persona, así como el trabajo escrito que haya presentado y su resumé' -- but it must be submitted by every applicant regardless. Budget for it: eight to fifteen pages is several times the length of a typical personal statement, and it is the single largest writing obligation among the schools curated in this batch.

Letters & documents

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Jan 30, 2027
    Notes & source

LSAT ONLY, and it is one of only two things that decide admission here -- see the admissions_stats note for the formula. The requirements list gives it as item 2: 'Puntuación del LSAT (Law School Admission Test)' -- LSAT score. NO GRE AND NO JD-NEXT ROUTE is mentioned anywhere, and the 2025 509 prints a single LSAT row covering all 122 first-years with no GRE or JD-Next row. A LOCAL ADMINISTRATION EXISTS AND IS PUBLISHED SEPARATELY: 'El LSAT-Puerto Rico se ofrecerá el jueves 18, viernes 19 y sábado 20 de febrero de 2027. La fecha límite de registro es el 5 de enero de 2027' -- the LSAT-Puerto Rico will be offered on 18, 19 and 20 February 2027, with a registration deadline of 5 January 2027. That sitting falls six weeks before the application closes, so it is the last practical opportunity for this cycle; the school also lists the standard LSAT administrations from August 2026 through February 2027 with their registration deadlines. FREE PREPARATION IS OFFERED TO ANYONE, not just to UPR undergraduates, which is unusual: 'Se ofrece una serie de sesiones de orientación y repasos libres de costo, en línea. No importa de qué universidad seas. Si quieres estudiar derecho, estos repasos te serán útiles' -- a series of free orientation and review sessions, online; it does not matter which university you are from. They run Sundays from 1 to 3 p.m. NO MINIMUM SCORE is published, and none could be: what matters is the applicant's LSAT PERCENTILE against the rest of that year's pool, not an absolute figure.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Mar 10, 2027
    Notes & source

A bachelor's degree and a CAS-computed GPA, which together form one of the two admission criteria: 'Bachillerato (B.A. o B.S.) para matrícula' -- a bachelor's degree for enrollment -- and 'Transcripción de créditos (Índice Académico Acumulativo (GPA))' -- transcript of credits, cumulative academic index. THE GPA THAT COUNTS IS LSAC'S, NOT THE APPLICANT'S OWN: the ranking uses 'la percentila del GPA de estudios de bachillerato, según computado por el Credential Assembly Service (CAS)' -- the percentile of the undergraduate GPA as computed by CAS. That matters more here than at most schools, because the CAS recalculation (which counts every attempt at a repeated course) feeds directly into a formula rather than into a holistic read. The application itself runs through LSAC: 'Nuestra solicitud de admisión está dentro de la plataforma del Law School Admission Council (LSAC)', and the school publishes a guide to opening an LSAC account.

  • RésuméRequiredstart by Mar 24, 2027
    Notes & source

Item 3 on the requirements list: 'Resumé'. No page limit, format or content guidance is published. As with the personal statement and the written work, it is read only for the fifteen discretionary places -- 'el Comité examina la declaración personal o ensayo de presentación de la persona, así como el trabajo escrito que haya presentado y su resumé' -- but is required of every applicant. The factors the Committee weighs alongside it are listed in the admissions_stats note and include several a résumé is the natural home for: 'estudios graduados completados en otra disciplina, tendencias de progreso académico, talentos, publicaciones, actividades extracurriculares.'

  • Letter of recommendationOptionalstart by Mar 3, 2027
    Notes & source

UPR DOES NOT ACCEPT LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION AT ALL. This is the flattest denial in the entire dataset and it is worth quoting whole: 'Recomendaciones y Entrevistas. La Escuela no acepta ni toma en consideración cartas de recomendación. Tampoco ofrece entrevistas a los solicitantes. Ello sin excepción alguna, dado que estas no forman parte del proceso de solicitud de admisión' -- Recommendations and Interviews. The School does not accept or take into consideration letters of recommendation. Nor does it offer interviews to applicants. Without any exception whatsoever, since these do not form part of the admission application process. Other schools in this batch make letters optional (Cooley, Bowen, MC Law, Touro, Widener Delaware, Wilmington); UPR refuses to look at them. An applicant should send none -- and should not spend a recommender's goodwill here. count_accepted is recorded as 1 only because the schema requires a positive integer where a value is given; the correct reading is zero, and it is stated here rather than implied. The refusal follows logically from the admission formula: with places allocated by a numerical ranking of GPA and LSAT percentiles, and only fifteen discretionary seats decided on submitted documents, there is no stage at which a letter could be weighed.

  • InterviewOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

NO INTERVIEWS, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, in the same sentence that refuses letters: 'Tampoco ofrece entrevistas a los solicitantes. Ello sin excepción alguna, dado que estas no forman parte del proceso de solicitud de admisión' -- Nor does it offer interviews to applicants. Without any exception whatsoever, since these do not form part of the admission application process. That is stronger than every other denial in this dataset: Touro, NIU and WNE say they do not interview, Charleston hedges with 'not part of the normal application process', and Widener Delaware rules out only face-to-face interviews. UPR forecloses the exception explicitly. Nothing is offered in its place on this page -- no visit, no class, no informational meeting -- though the school does run free public orientation sessions about applying to law school generally, which are not evaluative.

  • Application feeRequiredat submission
    Notes & source

A $30 FEE, PAID BY POSTAL MONEY ORDER AND EXPRESSLY NOT THROUGH LSAC -- the most procedurally unusual fee in this batch, and the instruction is emphatic: 'RECUERDA que debes pagar $30.00 a la Universidad de Puerto Rico por solicitar admisión a nuestra Escuela. Esto NO se paga a través del CAS. Para realizar el pago, envía giro postal' -- REMEMBER that you must pay $30.00 to the University of Puerto Rico to apply for admission to our School. This is NOT paid through CAS. To make the payment, send a postal money order. A signed form must accompany it: 'debes ir a la pestaña Forms otra vez, y descargar, completar y firmar el formulario Certificación de Giro. El giro postal debes hacerlo a nombre de la 'Universidad de Puerto Rico', y enviarlo por correo postal regular acompañado de la certificación' to the Admissions Office in San Juan. Budget mail time against a 31 March close. The 2025 509 certifies the same amount ('Application fee $30.00'), which is the lowest in this batch. NO WAIVER PROCESS IS PUBLISHED, neither a hardship route nor LSAC-waiver reciprocity. TUITION IS PER CREDIT AND LOW: 'El costo por crédito para el año académico 2025-2026 es de $305.00 más las cuotas de mantenimiento y tecnología' -- $305 per credit for 2025-26 plus maintenance and technology fees, which the school notes may vary by year.
