What it costs, how graduates fare

Tuition2025-26

$42,000–$50,000 full-time · resident to non-resident · plus $348 annual fees

Living expenses $27,094 on campus

Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance.

Bar passageclass of 2025

73.8%first-time−3.4

77.2% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 121 of 164 first-time takers passed

88.6% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

Employmentclass of 2025

111 of 192 (57.8%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission

First-year attrition2024-25

6.0% of the first-year class · 20 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

Essays

  • Personal statementRequired · 2 pgstart by Feb 22, 2027

We want to hear from you. Your personal statement of two pages (double-spaced) is required and must be submitted electronically. We'd like you to tell us why you are applying to law school and why UNH Law specifically. What motivates you to become a lawyer? This is your opportunity to share what makes you unique. Share your abilities, your character and your experiences. We consider this statement seriously in our decision-making and expect it to be concise and well-written.

    Notes & source

page_limit is recorded as 2 because 'Your personal statement of two pages (double-spaced) is required' states the length as part of the requirement rather than as guidance. Double spacing is the one firm formatting instruction; no font or margin requirement is published. That is a short statement by national standards, and it has to do double duty. THE PROMPT ABSORBS THE 'WHY UNH' ESSAY: applicants are asked to say 'why you are applying to law school and why UNH Law specifically' inside the same two pages, and UNH publishes no separate school-specific essay -- so a why_x_essay row is deliberately not recorded, and applicants coming from schools that split these apart should expect to compress rather than write more. NO PERSPECTIVE OR DIVERSITY STATEMENT exists either; background and life-experience material is routed to the one-page Supplemental Statement recorded under addendum.

  • AddendumOptional · 1 pgstart by Mar 12, 2027

Please include any statement of extraordinary circumstance(s) that could not be appropriately included in the personal statement or elsewhere in the application. The admissions committee is interested in an applicant's relevant life experience and learning more about your background. This statement should not exceed one page (double-spaced).

    Notes & source

UNH calls this the 'Supplemental Statement'. page_limit is recorded as 1 because 'should not exceed one page (double-spaced)' is a stated cap. Classified as addendum rather than perspective_statement because its framing is extraordinary circumstances that did not fit elsewhere, and because it is also the school's character-and-fitness vehicle -- but note that it is DUAL-PURPOSE and is the only place background material can go: 'The admissions committee is interested in an applicant's relevant life experience and learning more about your background.' With the personal statement capped at two pages and spoken for by the why-law and why-UNH questions, this single page is where an applicant's background, adversity, and any score or grade explanation all have to fit. REQUIRED WHEN TRIGGERED for character and fitness, and UNH is specific about the contents: 'Supplemental statements and addenda are required for character and fitness disclosures,' and 'Applicants who check “yes” on any of these questions are required to attach an addendum to their application which provides full disclosure with the offense charge, the date it occurred and disposition related to each event.' A CONTINUING DUTY applies past submission: 'Applicants have a continuing duty to disclose character and fitness issues that may arise between the time of application submission and matriculation.' The one-page cap is written for the optional statement; the page does not say whether it binds a character-and-fitness disclosure.

  • RésuméRequiredstart by Mar 8, 2027
    Notes & source

'A detailed resume is required and must be submitted electronically.' Content guidance is broad: 'In addition to work history, it should include your internships, academic honors, extracurricular activities, community service, hobbies and other special interests or accomplishments.' One instruction worth passing on, because it turns a gap into something to address rather than hide: 'Applicants not working or attending school are encouraged to disclose activities during that time.' No page limit or format is published, so none is recorded.

  • Letter of recommendation (1 of 2)Requiredstart by Feb 15, 2027
    Notes & source

'A minimum of two, maximum of three, recommendations,' restated as 'Two recommendations are required and must be submitted directly by the person writing the recommendation through the LSAC CAS. UNH Law will accept no more than three recommendations per applicant.' LSAC EVALUATIONS ARE ACCEPTED, which is worth flagging because it is the opposite of the rule at some schools: 'Recommendations may be in the form of a letter or evaluation.' Source preference is graded rather than absolute: 'At least one letter is strongly preferred and should be submitted by a teacher or employer who is able to address academic fitness and/or work habits. If you are a recent graduate, you should provide one letter or evaluation from a professor who can attest to your academic ability.' An explicit discouragement: 'We discourage using personal friends and relatives as references.' Note the Wildcat Scholars path raises the bar -- that route requires 'A minimum of two academic letters of recommendation' specifically.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Jan 14, 2027
    Notes & source

Either test, with one genuine exception: 'All first-year J.D. applicants are required to submit either a valid LSAT score or GRE score to be considered for admission, unless that student qualifies for the UNH Law Wildcat Scholars admission program.' A FIVE-YEAR WINDOW measured forward from enrolment, not backward from application: 'A valid test score is from an exam taken within five years of the planned enrollment date at UNH Law.' Applicants may file before testing but the file stalls: 'Applicants may apply prior to taking the test but must disclose the future date for application processing purposes. The application will not be complete until a valid test score is available.' The GRE school code is 3396. THE WILDCAT SCHOLARS EXCEPTION lets certain UNH undergraduates in with no LSAT or GRE at all: 'Undergraduate students at the University of New Hampshire who will matriculate at UNH Franklin Pierce within 12 months of graduation, may be considered for admission without an LSAT score if they obtained an ACT or SAT score within the 85th percentile of the test administration and have a cumulative GPA of a 3.5 or higher.' That route substitutes an ACT (code 7843) or SAT (code 7532) report plus an on-campus interview and two academic letters, and requires an email to admissions@law.unh.edu requesting consideration -- so it is not a box on the LSAC application. Nothing is published about superscoring, averaging, or LSAT Writing, and no minimum score is stated. No JD-Next variance is mentioned and the 509 prints no JD-Next row. The GRE path is heavily used here and concentrated in the Hybrid JD: of 248 first-year enrollees, 224 are LSAT admissions enrollees and 23 are GRE admissions enrollees, but only 4 of those GRE enrollees are full-time against 19 part-time.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Feb 22, 2027
    Notes & source

'Everyone must register with the CAS at www.LSAC.org.' The transcript net is drawn wider than most schools state: 'You must have transcripts from each post-secondary college or university attended sent directly to the CAS. This includes community college credits and/or undergraduate institutions attended as a high school student for credit. In addition, applicants may submit graduate degree transcripts.' A conferred degree is required by matriculation, not application: 'A bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, from an appropriately accredited college or university must be conferred to an applicant prior to matriculation.' On enrolment, 'Anyone enrolling at UNH Law is required to submit an official transcript, which indicates conferral of the bachelor's degree, directly from his/her undergraduate degree-granting institution to the office of admissions. (Final transcripts supplied to the CAS are considered official and do meet ABA requirements.)' INTERNATIONAL: 'UNH Franklin Pierce requires international applicants with foreign transcripts to submit all transcripts through the LSAC CAS. All undergraduate work outside the United States (including its territories) or Canada must be evaluated by CAS.' TOEFL is required of 'Applicants whose native language is not English and received an undergraduate degree from a country in which English is not the native language,' with a two-year validity window and school code 3396 -- but NO MINIMUM SCORE IS PUBLISHED, and no IELTS alternative is offered, both recorded as silence. Foreign-trained lawyers are routed oddly: those with an overseas law degree 'are eligible for advanced standing' and are told to 'select applicant type “transfer” on your LSAC application.' No minimum GPA is published.

  • Application feeOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

THERE IS NO APPLICATION FEE: 'There is no fee to apply for the J.D. program.' UNH's 2025 ABA Standard 509 report independently certifies the application fee as 0. Recorded as required: false because there is nothing to pay and nothing to waive -- and unlike schools where a zero fee has to be inferred from the 509's silence, UNH states it outright on the how-to-apply page. No fee-waiver process is published because none is needed. LSAC's own CAS and registration fees are separate and UNH does not address them.

  • InterviewOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

NOT A SILENCE AND NOT A DENIAL -- UNH interviews one specific group and says so. For ordinary J.D. applicants no interview is mentioned anywhere in the application process, and none is listed among the required materials. For the Wildcat Scholars route, an interview is MANDATORY: 'To be consider for admission as a UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law Wildcat Scholar, applicants must participate in an on-campus interview with the Law Admissions Committee and submit the following...' That route is open only to University of New Hampshire undergraduates matriculating within 12 months of graduation who meet the ACT/SAT 85th-percentile and 3.5 GPA thresholds, so the interview requirement reaches a small, defined subgroup rather than the general applicant pool. Recorded as required: false because that is the position for the applicants this data set is built for, with the exception documented here. The other in-person contact UNH offers -- tours and information sessions -- is not described as part of the evaluation.
