What it costs, how graduates fare

Bar passageclass of 2025

92.3%first-time+15.8

76.5% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 12 of 13 first-time takers passed

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

First-year attrition2024-25

7.0% of the first-year class · 3 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

Essays

  • Personal statementRequiredstart by Mar 11, 2027

We review each application holistically, so please tell us about yourself, your experiences and accomplishments, and why you are interested in law school in your personal statement and resume.

    Notes & source

Required, and listed in the school's 'Requirements at a glance' checklist. NO LENGTH, PAGE COUNT OR FORMAT IS PUBLISHED anywhere on the admissions or class-profile pages. THE PROMPT COMES FROM A VIDEO TRANSCRIPT RATHER THAN A WRITTEN INSTRUCTION, which is worth flagging: the checklist lists 'Personal statement' with no guidance at all, and the only description of what to write appears in the transcript of the admissions video embedded on the same page, spoken by the Assistant Director of Admissions. It is published text on the school's own site and is quoted verbatim, but it is a weaker source than a written instruction and should be treated as such. Note the prompt covers the statement AND the résumé together, and asks for 'why you are interested in law school' -- that is why law generally, not why Jacksonville, so no why_x_essay is recorded. WHAT THE SCHOOL SAYS IT IS LOOKING FOR: 'The College of Law seeks to admit students with diverse backgrounds and viewpoints who demonstrate academic excellence, integrity, and a commitment to the legal profession', and 'We are looking for applicants who will find success in law school and be a valuable addition to the legal community.' No perspective statement or optional essay is published, so those types are omitted rather than recorded as absent.

  • AddendumOptionalstart by Mar 29, 2027
    Notes & source

'Character evaluation' appears as its own line in the school's 'Requirements at a glance' checklist, and that is the entire published account of it -- recorded here because the taxonomy in docs/DATA.md has no character-and-fitness type. Jacksonville publishes no question set in advance, no disclosure standard, no instruction about what an affirmative answer requires, no length guidance, and none of the bar-admission warning language that nearly every other school in this dataset prints. Because the checklist lists it flatly as a requirement rather than as a conditional obligation, an applicant should expect a character section inside the application form itself; what it asks cannot be read off these pages. Required is recorded as false because the writing obligation it implies is conditional on the answers given, but note that this entry rests on less published text than any other character-and-fitness note in this dataset. NO GENERAL ADDENDUM SLOT is offered for score or transcript explanations. A WAITLIST PROCESS EXISTS AND IS DOCUMENTED ELSEWHERE: 'For more information on our admissions waitlist process, please refer to our Waitlist FAQs.'

Letters & documents

  • RésuméRequiredstart by Mar 25, 2027
    Notes & source

Required, listed in the 'Requirements at a glance' checklist. No page limit, format or content guidance is published. The one instruction about it treats it as an extension of the personal statement rather than as a separate document: 'please tell us about yourself, your experiences and accomplishments, and why you are interested in law school in your personal statement and resume.' Read that as an invitation to make the résumé narrative enough to carry accomplishments the statement does not have room for.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Jan 31, 2027
    Notes & source

THE LSAT IS REQUIRED AND THE GRE IS AN OPTIONAL EXTRA -- a structure worth reading carefully, because it inverts the usual either/or. The 'Requirements at a glance' checklist lists 'LSAT scores' as a requirement and, on its own final line, 'Optional: GRE scores'. The admissions page says separately: 'LSAT scores are required for admission into the College of Law.' So the GRE cannot substitute here; it can only be added. That is the same shape Akron and Atlanta's John Marshall publish for JD-Next, applied to the GRE instead. THE FILING AGREES: the 2025 509 prints a single LSAT row covering all 70 first-years, with no GRE row at all and no JD-Next row. NO VALIDITY WINDOW, NO MINIMUM SCORE AND NO POLICY ON MULTIPLE SCORES is published -- neither a highest-score nor an averaging rule -- which is a real gap rather than an omission in this file's research. The school volunteers a range instead of a rule: for the entering class it reports 'LSAT scores ranged from 151 to 166' and a median of 156.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Mar 11, 2027
    Notes & source

'Official transcripts' is a listed requirement, and the application runs through LSAC (the apply link resolves to an LSAC release for school code 5502). No CAS registration instruction, no LSAC school code and no bachelor's-degree statement appears on the admissions page, which is thinner than most schools at this tier. INTERNATIONAL CREDENTIALS NEED AN OUTSIDE EVALUATION AND IT GATES THE READ: 'Applicants who are applying to Jacksonville University with college/university credits that were received outside of the United States will need to complete a course-by-course foreign credential evaluation. The college/university transcript will not be reviewed without this evaluation completed and an official copy must be sent by the organization.' Note the evaluation must come from the evaluating organisation directly, not from the applicant. TRANSFER APPLICANTS HAVE THEIR OWN DOCUMENT SET, and their timing is constrained by grades rather than by a date: 'Applications cannot be reviewed until a law school transcript reflecting fall [semester grades is available].' They must submit an application, résumé, a 'Personal statement explaining the reason for transfer', LSAT scores, undergraduate, graduate and current law transcripts, and a 'Letter of good standing from the Dean of current law program'. Transfers 'will be accepted only to the extent that vacancies exist in the second-year class', and prior study must have been at an ABA-accredited school.

  • Letter of recommendation (1 of 2)Requiredstart by Mar 4, 2027
    Notes & source

Two letters, named in the admissions video transcript -- 'The admissions process includes submitting a completed application with your LSAT score, transcripts, resume, a personal statement, and two letters of recommendation' -- and listed without a number in the written 'Requirements at a glance' checklist as 'Letters of recommendation'. The count is recorded from the transcript because it is the only place the school gives one; as with the personal statement prompt, note that this is spoken guidance published on the page rather than a written instruction. NO MAXIMUM IS PUBLISHED, so no count_accepted is recorded, and no guidance is given about who should write -- no category of recommender is preferred and none is ruled out.

Administrative

  • Application feeOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

NO APPLICATION FEE. Jacksonville's admissions pages never mention one in either direction; the school's 2025 ABA Standard 509 certifies 'Application fee 0', so the filing is the source and is cited as such. No waiver process is published, which follows from there being nothing to waive; LSAC's own CAS and report fees are separate and JU does not address them. SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION IS AUTOMATIC AND UNIVERSAL IN PRACTICE: 'All Juris Doctor applicants will be considered for competitive merit scholarships. No additional application is needed for merit scholarship consideration', and the school reports that '100% of our students received a merit scholarship'. Read that last figure against the sticker price rather than as a discount on it -- the published cost of attendance is '$36,000 (based on a $1,200/per credit hour rate) and $820 in annual comprehensive fees', with a full first-year budget of $61,731 including living costs, and the page notes 'parking is not provided by the College of Law'.
