- Personal statementRequired · 2 pgstart by Jan 10, 2027
Applicants must submit a personal statement on a topic of their choosing. Appropriate topics include insights into the applicant's passion/motivation for studying law, commitment to receiving a legal education that integrates character formation and ethics, and skills and insights developed through specific professional or extracurricular experiences.
Notes & source
A REAL CEILING WITH FORMATTING ATTACHED: 'The personal essay should be no longer than two pages, double-spaced, and 12-point font.' 'No longer than' is a ceiling phrase under docs/CURATION.md, so page_limit 2 with no judgment call. THE TOPIC IS OPEN AND THE SUGGESTIONS ARE NOT NEUTRAL: the middle of the three -- 'commitment to receiving a legal education that integrates character formation and ethics' -- is the school's own mission restated as an invitation, and it recurs in how the school describes who it admits: 'The Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law at High Point University seeks to enroll students who desire to be lawyer-leaders who will serve their clients and community with exceptional skill, inspirational character, and unwavering integrity. We admit candidates who demonstrate academic readiness for law school and a commitment to the mission and values of High Point University.' That last clause is as close as HPU comes to a why-us question; it is a stated admission criterion rather than a separate essay, so no why_x_essay is recorded. THE SCHOOL FLAGS HOW MUCH WEIGHT THIS CARRIES: 'The admissions committee attaches significant importance to the applicant's personal statement.' Its published criteria list it as 'A personal statement and any responses provided as a part of the application', which implies further written responses inside the application form that these pages do not print. No perspective statement, optional essay or resume requirement is published, so those types are omitted rather than recorded as absent.

- AddendumOptionalstart by Jan 28, 2027
Notes & source
HPU PUBLISHES NO GENERAL ADDENDUM SLOT and no character-and-fitness question set in advance. What it prints is the standard bar-admission warning, recorded here because the taxonomy in docs/DATA.md has no character-and-fitness type: 'In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction.' The admissions criteria refer to 'any responses provided as a part of the application', which implies written questions inside the form that these pages do not reproduce, so an applicant should expect prompts this file cannot list. ONE PROCEDURAL TERM WORTH KNOWING BEFORE SUBMITTING: 'All items submitted as part of the law school application process become the property of HPU Law and cannot be returned.' Required is false -- nothing here is an unconditional obligation.

- LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Dec 2, 2026
Notes & source
EITHER TEST IS ACCEPTED, BUT THE LSAT DISPLACES THE GRE ENTIRELY WHEN BOTH EXIST -- and here it reaches money as well as admission: 'High Point University School of Law requires that candidates submit an official score report for either the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) or the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)... If a candidate has both LSAT and GRE scores, the committee will evaluate the candidate for admission and scholarship based solely on the LSAT. If a candidate applies with a GRE score and later has a reportable LSAT score, the decision and scholarship award will be reevaluated based on the LSAT score only.' That is the one-way structure Charleston and Elon also publish, with an extra edge: a later LSAT can reopen a settled scholarship award, not just an admission decision. A published scholarship threshold, which few schools give: 'Scores above the national medians for these standardized tests (152 for the LSAT) will be most competitive for merit scholarship awards.' A TEST-FREE ROUTE EXISTS FOR ONE GROUP ONLY, under an ABA interpretation rather than a variance: 'We consider HPU undergraduate students who meet the criteria under ABA Interpretation 503-3 for admission without an LSAT or GRE score if they indicate on their application the criteria they meet under that ABA Interpretation.' Note the burden is on the applicant to claim it on the form -- it is not applied automatically -- and it is available only to High Point's own undergraduates. This connects to the school's 3+3 programme, which lets selected HPU undergraduates start law school in their senior year and finish both degrees in six. NO JD-NEXT is mentioned, and no policy on multiple scores within a test is published.

- Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Jan 10, 2027
Notes & source
HPU PUBLISHES A ROUTE THAT AVOIDS LSAC AND CAS ENTIRELY, WHICH ALMOST NO ABA SCHOOL DOES -- AND ITS OWN PAGE CONTRADICTS ITSELF ABOUT WHO MAY USE IT. The banner at the top of the admissions page says: 'Apply Free Through the HPU Direct Application. Want to apply for free? All candidates may apply through our HPU Direct Application and avoid the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) application and the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) and accompanying fees.' Further down the same page: 'Current HPU undergraduates and alumni may apply directly through our High Point University Application, or the LSAC application listed below. All other candidates must apply online through the Law School Admission Council LSAC website.' Both were fetched and confirmed in the raw HTML on 2026-09-15. Recorded rather than resolved per docs/CURATION.md; this is worth an email, because the difference is the whole CAS subscription fee -- real money for an applicant applying to only one or two schools, and the banner is the more prominent of the two statements. THE LSAC ROUTE IS THE ONE THIS ENTRY DESCRIBES: 'For those applying through the LSAC, you will be required to submit the following information... Submit all official transcripts from all institutions you have attended to LSAC.' A bachelor's degree is required -- 'Bachelor's degree from an approved college or university, though no specific major is required' -- and may be completed after admission: 'If accepted to HPU Law prior to the completion of your bachelor's degree, an official degree-posted transcript must be submitted to HPU Law prior to matriculation.' AN OCTOBER 15 DEADLINE WITH A STAGED CONSEQUENCE: 'For all matriculating students, official transcripts from all prior institutions attended, including those indicating the awarding of a Bachelor's degree, must be received by the law school no later than October 15 of the fall they matriculate. If the law school does not have an enrolled student's transcripts on file by October 15, the law school will permit the student to complete the current academic semester, but the law school shall not permit the student to enroll in a subsequent semester until the law school has the student's official transcripts on file.'

- Letter of recommendationRequiredstart by Jan 3, 2027
Notes & source
'Letters of recommendation (one required, up to four accepted).' Both numbers in one clause, in the school's list of admissions criteria. A single required letter is at the low end of what law schools ask, and a ceiling of four is at the high end -- so HPU's range is unusually wide, and an applicant with strong recommenders has more room here than almost anywhere else in this dataset. No guidance is published about who should write, no category of recommender is preferred or ruled out, and nothing is said about whether a file is held while a letter is outstanding. Note that the file-completion language elsewhere on the page -- decisions 'often within two weeks of the date the application becomes complete' -- implies outstanding letters delay a decision rather than being waived.

- InterviewOptionalat submission
Notes & source
BY COMMITTEE REQUEST ONLY, AND CONDITIONAL RATHER THAN ROUTINE: 'In certain circumstances, the Admissions Committee may request an interview with an applicant. If an interview is requested, the Admissions Office will contact you directly to coordinate a convenient date and time. Interviews may be conducted in person or virtually via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.' Note how this differs from Elon's version, which reserves interviews for candidates already judged competitive: HPU says 'in certain circumstances' without saying what they are, so an invitation here carries no published signal in either direction. No applicant can request one. Required is false: nothing obliges an applicant to interview, and nothing they do can make one happen.

- Application feeOptionalat submission
Notes & source
NO APPLICATION FEE ON EITHER ROUTE. Through LSAC: 'HPU Law's application fee has been waived for all applicants.' Through the school's own form, the saving is larger than a waived application fee, because it reaches LSAC's own charges: 'Want to apply for free? All candidates may apply through our HPU Direct Application and avoid the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) application and the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) and accompanying fees.' For an applicant applying to one or two schools, a CAS subscription is the single biggest cost of applying, so this is the most financially consequential sentence on the page -- but see the transcript_cas entry, where the same page restricts the direct route to 'Current HPU undergraduates and alumni' a few paragraphs later. The conflict is unresolved and worth an email. NO ABA FILING EXISTS TO CHECK THE FEE AGAINST: High Point was provisionally approved in 2026 and has filed no Standard 509 questionnaire, so every figure in this file comes from the school's own pages.
