What it costs, how graduates fare

Tuition2025-26

$16,162–$37,886 full-time · resident to non-resident · plus $1,434 annual fees

$12,114–$28,422 part-time

Living expenses $22,153 on campus · $26,693 off

Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance.

Bar passageclass of 2025

87.4%first-time+7.9

79.5% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 160 of 183 first-time takers passed

92.7% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

Employmentclass of 2025

173 of 195 (88.7%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission

Ten months after graduation · 8 more in JD-advantage jobs · 7 still seeking

The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

First-year attrition2024-25

4.0% of the first-year class · 10 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

Not a starting salary.

$77,765 median one year after finishing · $116,613 after four

$107,773 is the national median at four years for the same credential

A College Scorecard median for 2017-18 and 2018-19 completers who received federal aid, measured a fixed number of years after they finished — not what this year’s graduates are being paid, and not a figure the school or the ABA publishes. The ABA collects no salary data at all.

Essays

  • Personal statementRequired · 2 pgat submission

Include a typed personal statement with your online LSAC application. This is your opportunity to describe why you are pursuing legal study at Georgia State Law and highlight any experiences, qualifications or other information you believe to be relevant.

    Notes & source

'The statement should be no more than two double-spaced pages.' The Application FAQs lower on the same page restate the assignment: 'The personal statement gives you an opportunity to describe yourself, your interest in law school, and the goals you seek to achieve with a J.D. Include specific information about your abilities beyond the data in your application and consider it as a sample of your writing ability and thought process. The personal statement should be no more than two double-spaced pages.' Note the built-in why-this-school element ('describe why you are pursuing legal study at Georgia State Law') — Georgia State asks for no separate 'why us' essay, so the school-specific content lives inside the single statement. No formatting rules beyond double spacing are published (no font, margin, or word count), and the pages say nothing about generative AI.

Letters & documents

  • Letter of recommendation (1 of 2)Requiredat submission
    Notes & source

'Submit a minimum of two (to a maximum of four) letters of recommendation, no more than two years old, through your LSAC Law School Report. We prefer letters from professors who can attest to your ability to enter a competitive professional program.' The two-year recency limit is unusual and easy to miss. Also from the same step: 'These letters should speak to your ability to be successful in a graduate program. Professional and academic letters are strongly recommended. If you have been out of school for multiple years, employer references will suffice.' The Application FAQs on the same page add, under 'Who should write letters of recommendation?': 'Educators or employers are preferred. Your advocate should be someone who is able to comment specifically about your intellectual ability, work habits, dependability, thoroughness and other characteristics.' Letters are among the materials each committee member reviews: 'Each committee member will review your entire file, including the personal statement and letters of recommendation.' Transfer and guest applicants follow the same two-to-four rule through CAS.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredat submission
    Notes & source

'Register with the LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS). The CAS will forward your Law School Report after all required documentation has been received. This service requires at least three to four weeks before the application deadline to receive, process and forward your materials to the College of Law.' Transcripts: 'Send official school transcripts to LSAC for inclusion in your Law School Report. You will need to submit academic transcripts from each college and/or university attended regardless of whether or not a degree was conferred.' Eligibility: 'A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university is required to register,' and first-year applicants are those who have graduated (or will graduate) from such an institution before fall enrollment, or who left an ABA-accredited law school in good standing without completing the first year of full-time enrollment. Procedural: 'You must submit all required documents through the Credential Assembly Service of the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). Never send documents directly to our office unless requested.' Georgia State cannot admit students who are ineligible for readmission to another law school. International applicants who attended and graduated from a college or university outside the U.S. must have their credentials evaluated through the JD Credential Assembly Service (JD CAS), which is folded into the LSAC Law School Report at no extra charge; JDCAS evaluation does not apply to foreign work completed through a study-abroad, consortium, or exchange program sponsored by a U.S. or Canadian institution when clearly indicated as such on the home campus transcript. English proficiency is encouraged rather than required: 'Applicants whose native language is not English are encouraged to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) to demonstrate a satisfactory level of proficiency in the English language' — no minimum score is published.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredat submission
    Notes & source

'All applicants, excluding those through the Panther Scholars Program, must have a reportable LSAT or GRE score. The Admissions Committee considers all LSAT and GRE scores in the admissions decision process, however, scores more than three years old will not be considered.' The three-year validity window is shorter than the five years most schools allow. Timing: 'First-Year Applicants must take the LSAT no later than the June test administration preceding the desired fall enrollment'; Early Decision applicants must test no later than the November administration. Scores are not averaged and no index is described; per the Application FAQs, 'the admissions committee will review all LSAT/GRE scores received in the last three years.' GRE: newly accepted for this cycle — 'The College of Law will begin accepting the GRE for our Fall 2026 admission cycle. As this is our first year accepting the GRE, we do not have data on admitted student GRE scores. The college will be utilizing the GRE Comparison Tool, which allows score users to predict a test taker's LSAT score using the test taker's GRE Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning scores from the GRE General Test.' Consistently, the school's 2025 ABA Standard 509 report shows all 237 fall 2025 enrollees admitted on the LSAT and no GRE row. One test-waiver route exists, limited to the school's own undergraduates: the Panther Scholars Program waives the LSAT for Georgia State University students or recent graduates with a cumulative UGPA of at least 3.50 who scored above the 85th percentile nationally on the SAT or ACT, completed at least six semesters of full-time study at Georgia State, and are confident Georgia State Law is their top choice; those applicants report an SAT or ACT score instead and email an official score report to the admissions office. Candidates who already hold a valid, reportable LSAT score are ineligible for that route, and Panther Scholars admits may not be eligible to transfer after 1L without an LSAT score. The pages do not mention JD-Next, do not mention an LSAT Writing requirement, and publish no minimum score.

  • Application feeRequiredat submission
    Notes & source

'Submit the required online application form on lsac.org, along with your $50 nonrefundable application fee (paid by debit card, credit card or online check).' The same $50 appears in the school's 2025 ABA Standard 509 report. Fee waivers: the admissions pages are silent — no waiver policy, LSAC fee-waiver reciprocity, or request procedure is published anywhere on law.gsu.edu/admissions/how-to-apply/jd/, law.gsu.edu/admissions/how-to-apply/, or law.gsu.edu/admissions/. Recorded here as silence, not as an absence of waivers.

  • InterviewOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

Georgia State does not interview — an explicit statement, not a silence. 'We do not grant personal interviews' appears three times on the apply page, in the policy lists for first-year applicants, transfer applicants, and guest applicants. Nothing on the admissions pages describes an invited, evaluative, or recorded-video interview of any kind. The visit and information-session offerings at law.gsu.edu/admissions/visit/ are recruiting events, not evaluative interviews.
