Living expenses $31,000 on campus

Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance.

Bar passageclass of 2025

69.9%first-time−11.5

81.4% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 93 of 133 first-time takers passed

94.9% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

Essays

  • Personal statementRequired · 3 pgstart by Nov 16, 2026

What has led you to apply to Elon University School of Law? Explain how the character and educational program of Elon Law matches your academic and professional goals. Discuss what you believe Elon Law has to offer you and what you have to offer it. In addition, discuss your motivations for studying law and entering the legal profession.

    Notes & source

ELON'S PERSONAL STATEMENT IS A WHY-ELON ESSAY, AND THE PROMPT IS COMPULSORY RATHER THAN SUGGESTED. 'Applicants should provide a personal statement that answers the prompt as written in Elon Law's application... Your statement must answer the prompt copied below.' Three of the prompt's four sentences are about this school specifically; only the last opens out to law generally. THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT PLANNING FACT IN THE FILE: a general personal statement written for other schools does not answer this question, and no separate why_x_essay entry is recorded because Elon asks for no separate essay -- it has replaced the personal statement with one. Budget a bespoke draft. A REAL CEILING WITH FORMATTING ATTACHED: 'Your personal statement must not exceed three pages (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman).' 'Must not exceed' is a ceiling phrase under docs/CURATION.md, so page_limit 3 with no judgment call; the typeface and spacing are part of the same instruction, and Elon repeats that exact formatting specification for every other piece of writing it asks for. NO PERSPECTIVE STATEMENT IS REQUIRED -- one is offered among the optional topics, recorded separately.

  • Optional essayOptional · 2 pgschool-specificstart by Nov 30, 2026

What has been your most meaningful experience as a member of a team? Describe the circumstances and the role you played. Explain any lessons learned and how you might apply these lessons of experience to future opportunities.

    Notes & source

Topic 1 of three optional statements Elon offers: 'You may respond to one or more of the topics listed below in order to assist the School of Law in evaluating your application. Responses must not exceed two pages (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman).' The two-page ceiling and the formatting apply to each of the three; the other two are recorded separately as perspective_statement (Topic 3) and addendum (Topic 2). 'ONE OR MORE' MEANS ALL THREE CAN BE ANSWERED, which is more optional writing than most schools invite -- six further pages on top of a three-page personal statement, if an applicant takes up the whole offer. THIS PARTICULAR TOPIC IS SCHOOL-SHAPED RATHER THAN GENERIC: teamwork and transferable lessons map onto Elon's published emphasis on 'nationally recognized training in leadership, focused on professionalism, business skills, technology, project management and civic engagement', so it is recorded as a school-specific prompt rather than as reusable material.

  • Perspective statementOptional · 2 pgstart by Nov 23, 2026

Do you bring a unique perspective to the study of law by virtue of your background or experiences?

    Notes & source

Topic 3 of Elon's three optional statements, and the one that is genuinely reusable across schools -- background and perspective, the post-2023 successor to the diversity statement described in docs/DATA.md. It shares the slot's ceiling: 'Responses must not exceed two pages (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman).' The prompt is phrased as a yes/no question, which is a drafting quirk rather than an invitation to answer it as one; the expected response is the essay. Recorded separately from the other two optional topics so that overlap detection can see it for what it is: a school will often accept the same perspective statement, whereas Elon's Topic 1 and its personal-statement prompt are both bespoke to this school.

  • AddendumOptional · 2 pgstart by Dec 4, 2026

If you do not believe that your academic record or standardized test scores accurately reflect your ability to succeed in law school, please explain why.

    Notes & source

THREE DIFFERENT THINGS ARE FILED AS ADDENDA AT ELON, and only one of them is optional. (1) Topic 2 of the optional statements, quoted as the prompt above, sharing the slot's ceiling: 'Responses must not exceed two pages (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman).' (2) A JD-NEXT SCORE REPORT, which the school routes here rather than treating as a test: 'For those with JD-Next Score Reports, please include as an addendum. JD-Next Score Reports are supplemental and cannot be used in lieu of an official LSAT or GRE score.' (3) CHARACTER AND FITNESS, which is mandatory when triggered and has its own formatting: 'During the law school admissions process, you will be required to respond to questions about past instances of your conduct such as academic disciplines, residence hall violations, criminal charges, and minor traffic violations. A Character & Fitness statement (double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman) is required if you noted 'yes' to any question in this section of your Elon Law application.' Note how far down that list of examples reaches -- residence hall violations and minor traffic violations are both named, so the disclosure bar is lower here than at schools that carve minor traffic matters out. A CONTINUING OBLIGATION RUNS AFTER SUBMISSION: 'Elon Law applicants are under a continuing obligation after the submission of their application to notify the Law School of any changes in the information provided in their application responses.' And a warning about the document's afterlife: 'Applicants should retain copies of their law school applications since many state boards of law examiners request copies of applications in connection with taking a state bar exam. All materials submitted in support of an application become the property of the Law School.' Recorded at required false because every one of the three is conditional; the character-and-fitness statement is compulsory for anyone who answers yes.

  • RésuméRequired · 2 pgstart by Nov 30, 2026
    Notes & source

'Your resume must not exceed two pages and must highlight any relevant experience.' A ceiling phrase, so page_limit 2 without a judgment call. THE SECOND SENTENCE IS THE ONE PEOPLE GET WRONG: 'Even though a resume is required, the applicant must still respond to all questions on the application.' Elon is pre-empting the common move of answering an application question with 'see resume' -- here that leaves the question unanswered. No further content guidance is published beyond 'relevant experience'.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Oct 8, 2026
    Notes & source

BOTH TESTS ARE ACCEPTED, BUT THE GRE ROUTE IS ONE-WAY AND CLOSES THE MOMENT AN LSAT SCORE EXISTS: 'You must submit either an official LSAT or GRE score, taken within five years of the cycle for which you are seeking admission. If you have a valid LSAT score(s), a score on the GRE will only be considered in addition to the LSAT score, not in place of a score. All valid LSAT scores are required to be submitted.' So the GRE is a genuine alternative only for an applicant who has never sat the LSAT -- the same structure Charleston publishes, and the same trap: taking the LSAT 'just to see' forecloses the GRE route permanently. Note also that ALL valid LSAT scores must be submitted; Elon publishes no highest-score rule and no averaging rule, which is a real gap next to so specific a submission requirement. Five-year validity is measured against the cycle applied to. LSAC code 5500; GRE code 6230. THE FILING SHOWS THE GRE ROUTE IS RARELY USED: the 2025 509 prints a single LSAT row covering all 228 first-years, with no GRE row at all -- consistent with the one-way rule above rather than with the policy being nominal. JD-NEXT IS SUPPLEMENTAL AND CANNOT SUBSTITUTE, and Elon files it as an addendum rather than as a test: 'For those with JD-Next Score Reports, please include as an addendum. JD-Next Score Reports are supplemental and cannot be used in lieu of an official LSAT or GRE score.' No JD-Next row appears in the 509 either. NO MINIMUM SCORE is published.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Nov 16, 2026
    Notes & source

CAS CARRIES EVERYTHING, LETTERS INCLUDED: 'Each applicant must register with CAS so that Elon Law will receive a current Law School Report. As part of the CAS report, applicants must request all undergraduate, graduate, and/or law school transcripts and letters of recommendation to be sent to LSAC directly for review. It is the applicant's responsibility to meet all of LSAC's requirements and to ensure Elon Law receives a completed CAS report.' A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IS REQUIRED BEFORE ENROLLING, NOT BEFORE APPLYING: 'Applicants must earn a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution before enrolling at Elon Law. Students may apply who have not yet earned their bachelor's degree, but expect to earn their degree before enrolling in August.' No minimum GPA is published and no major is preferred. THE FILE-COMPLETION BURDEN IS EXPLICITLY THE APPLICANT'S, with only a courtesy attempt from the school: 'We will attempt to notify an applicant if a required item is missing from their application file. The applicant remains ultimately responsible for ensuring that the application file is completed in a timely manner with all of the required materials.' A PRIOR ACADEMIC DISMISSAL CARRIES A TWO-YEAR BAR WITH NO DISCRETION STATED: 'An applicant who has been academically dismissed from a law school must wait at least two years following that dismissal to apply for admission to Elon Law. A letter of good standing from the applicant's school will also be required to be submitted directly to the admissions office... Applicants who do not satisfy this requirement will be denied.'

  • Letter of recommendation (1 of 2)Requiredstart by Nov 9, 2026
    Notes & source

'Two letters of recommendation submitted through CAS are required (three letters maximum). Academic and professional recommendations are preferred; all recommenders should address your potential as a law student.' Both numbers in one sentence, which is unusually clean. Note 'preferred' rather than required for the academic/professional categories -- Elon does not rule out a personal recommender the way several schools in this dataset do, it simply says which it would rather see. The single instruction to recommenders is specific and worth passing on: address the applicant's potential AS A LAW STUDENT, not their general merits. Delivery is through CAS only.

  • InterviewOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

BY INVITATION, AND THE INVITATION ITSELF IS A SIGNAL: 'The admissions committee may interview candidates who are competitive for admission. This is part of the school's holistic approach to evaluating candidates.' Read precisely -- interviews go to candidates already judged competitive, so being asked is information, and not being asked is not a published negative. No applicant can request one, and no format, length or timing is published. WHAT IS OPEN TO EVERYONE IS EXPLICITLY NOT AN INTERVIEW: 'All applicants and prospective students, whether invited for an interview or not, are welcome to visit the law school to speak to an admissions professional or student ambassador, tour our facility, and gain a true sense of the Elon Law community.' Required is false: nothing obliges an applicant to interview, and nothing they do can make one happen.

  • Application feeOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

NO APPLICATION FEE, stated twice on the same page and in capitals both times: 'Elon Law only accepts applications submitted through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). The Elon Law application is FREE of charge', and in the requirements list, 'Applicants must submit a law school application through LSAC. It is FREE to apply to Elon Law.' The 2025 509 certifies the same thing: 'Application fee 0.00'. No waiver process is published because there is nothing to waive; LSAC's own CAS and report fees are separate and Elon does not address them. LSAC is the only accepted route -- there is no paper or direct-submission alternative here.
