What it costs, how graduates fare

Tuition2025-26

$50,920 full-time · plus $470 annual fees

Living expenses $20,328 on campus · $20,923 off

Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance.

Bar passageclass of 2025

77.2%first-time−1.6

78.7% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 88 of 114 first-time takers passed

98.1% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

Employmentclass of 2025

98 of 114 (86.0%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission

Ten months after graduation · 3 more in JD-advantage jobs · 9 still seeking

The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

First-year attrition2024-25

5.0% of the first-year class · 7 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

EarningsCollege Scorecard

Not a starting salary.

$72,226 median one year after finishing · $87,375 after four

$107,773 is the national median at four years for the same credential

A College Scorecard median for 2017-18 and 2018-19 completers who received federal aid, measured a fixed number of years after they finished — not what this year’s graduates are being paid, and not a figure the school or the ABA publishes. The ABA collects no salary data at all.

Drake Law seeks to enroll students who show the ability to succeed in the practice of law; we want students who will be leaders in their communities, who will be ethical and professional, and who represent a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. Your academic record, including the rigor of your curriculum, along with your LSAT score, will provide us with important information. We recognize, however, that the potential for success and your contribution to our class cannot be measured solely by a standardized test or by past academic records. Therefore, we use a holistic admissions model that evaluates non-academic skills and experiences in addition to academic credentials. Non-academic factors Drake Law may consider include: Extracurricular and co-curricular activities, in particular those that helped you develop your leadership, academic, or interpersonal skills. Professional or work experiences, or community engagement. Your resilience in overcoming obstacles or barriers. Experiences or opportunities interacting with individuals from different cultures or backgrounds, including your fluency in other languages. Your career goals and motivations for going to law school, including how Drake Law in particular would further those goals. Your potential contribution to the law school environment and legal profession (for example, relating to your background, perspectives, or experiences). Please include a separate statement with your application, not exceeding two pages. We encourage you to discuss any information that might help the Admissions Committee evaluate how you meet the above criteria.

    Notes & source

The six lines between the framing paragraph and the closing instruction are a bulleted list on the page; they are reproduced here as separate lines. The page publishes no font, spacing, or margin requirements, and says nothing about generative AI. NO SEPARATE ESSAYS: Drake publishes no perspective/diversity statement, no standalone 'why Drake' essay, and no optional essay prompt of any kind — the personal statement absorbs all three, since the prompt itself asks about 'backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints,' about 'experiences or opportunities interacting with individuals from different cultures or backgrounds,' and about 'how Drake Law in particular would further those goals.' Applicants coming from schools that split these apart should expect to compress, not to write more. International JD applicants are required to submit a personal statement as well; the international section lists it without repeating the prompt or the two-page limit.

  • AddendumOptionalstart by Mar 29, 2027
    Notes & source

Two distinct invitations on the same page, neither with a published length limit. (1) Optional and open-ended, from the Application Review Process paragraph: after listing what the committee weighs beyond LSAT and academic record — 'writing skills, letters of recommendation (academic letters preferred), leadership experience, community and extracurricular involvement, and work and life experiences' — the page says 'Applicants are welcome to attach a resume and/or addendum to include any such relevant information.' Drake publishes no GPA-addendum or score-addendum invitation specifically; this general one is all there is. (2) Required when triggered, character and fitness: 'Any affirmative answers to the Character and Fitness question require a detailed explanation to be uploaded with the application.' The page also carries the standard bar-admission caution: 'In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every US jurisdiction.'

Letters & documents

  • Letter of recommendationRequiredstart by Mar 4, 2027
    Notes & source

'At least one letter of recommendation is required, and up to three letters will be accepted. Letters of recommendation from academic sources are strongly encouraged.' Listed on the page as one of the items that 'will be sent from LSAC and included in your report,' so domestic applicants route letters through the LSAC Letter of Recommendation Service as part of the CAS report. The Application Review Process paragraph repeats the preference in parentheses: 'letters of recommendation (academic letters preferred).' International JD applicants get the same one-to-three range plus a content instruction the domestic section does not carry — 'Letters should address an applicant's academic performance and potential' — and an extra routing option: 'Letters of recommendation may be sent to LSAC or the Drake Law School Office of Admission.'

  • RésuméOptionalstart by Mar 25, 2027
    Notes & source

Optional and uncapped. The only mention is in the Application Review Process paragraph: 'Applicants are welcome to attach a resume and/or addendum to include any such relevant information.' No page limit, format, or content guidance is published, so none is recorded. The resume is not listed among the items required for a complete application, and it does not appear in the international JD checklist at all.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Mar 11, 2027
    Notes & source

'All JD applicants are required to have a valid CAS report. Please visit www.lsac.org to establish your account.' Transcripts are one of the items the page lists as flowing through that report: 'Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be sent to LSAC.' After admission, 'All students must ensure a final transcript from their degree-granting institution noting the completion date of their baccalaureate degree is on file with LSAC. Final transcripts must be sent through the LSAC by Oct. 15' (drake.edu/law/admitted). International JD applicants: 'Applicants who have completed work at any foreign institution outside the U.S., its territories, and Canada must have their credentials sent to LSAC to be evaluated by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers,' and 'TOEFL scores are required for applicants whose native language is not English,' with the report sent directly to LSAC for inclusion in the CAS report and a recommended (not required) floor: 'Drake Law School strongly recommends a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 100.' No IELTS alternative is offered for the JD, though the LLM and MJ programs accept IELTS 6.5 — recorded as the page's own distinction. The page states no minimum GPA and does not say a bachelor's degree must already be conferred at the time of application.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Jan 31, 2027
    Notes & source

The LSAT is the default and the GRE is a gated exception that requires contacting the school first. Site wording: 'We will use your highest score in the last 5 years in consideration for admittance. We will not accept LSAT scores obtained after June of the year in which classes commence. Applicants who wish to submit a GRE test score must contact the Office of Admissions at Law-Admit@drake.edu. Please note that LSAT scores will be considered for applicants who have taken, or will take, the LSAT before their enrollment.' The last sentence means a GRE applicant who also has an LSAT score cannot hide it. The page publishes no GRE score policy, no GRE validity window, and no criteria for when the GRE will be accepted — recorded as silence. LSAT Writing is a hard gate on the file being readable at all: 'Applicants applying with an LSAT score are required to complete the LSAT Writing portion of the LSAT exam. This must be completed before LSAC releases your CAS report.' Drake's 2025 ABA Standard 509 report reports all 141 first-year enrollees as 'LSAT Admissions Enrollees' and prints no GRE or JD-Next row, consistent with the GRE being rare here. No JD-Next variance is mentioned anywhere.

Administrative

  • Application feeOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

Domestic JD applicants pay nothing: 'The online application form is available through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) at www.lsac.org. There is no online application fee.' Drake's 2025 ABA Standard 509 report independently lists the application fee as 0. Recorded as required: false because there is nothing to pay and nothing to waive, and no fee-waiver process is published for domestic applicants. ONE EXCEPTION, for international applicants only: the international JD checklist lists an 'Application fee of $45 (U.S. dollars) payable to Drake University Law School' with the parenthetical '(The application fee will be waived for applications submitted electronically before April 1.)' — so an international applicant who files online by the priority date also pays nothing, and only a late or paper international application would be charged. LSAC's own CAS and registration fees are separate and are not addressed by Drake's pages.

  • InterviewOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

Recorded as the site's silence, not as a statement that Drake does not interview. No Drake Law page fetched on 2026-08-31 — apply, programs, class profile, ABA required disclosures, admitted students, visit, costs, or the JD degree page — mentions an admissions interview of any kind, evaluative or informational, by invitation or on request. The only in-person contact the site offers prospective applicants is a campus visit or information session (drake.edu/law/programs/visit), which is not described as part of the evaluation. The Application Review Process paragraph lists what the committee considers and no interview appears among the factors.
