What it costs, how graduates fare
- Tuition2025-26
$63,126 full-time · plus $75 annual fees
$50,400 part-time
Living expenses $32,956 on campus · $41,778 off
Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance.

- Bar passageclass of 2025
80.3%first-time−2.3
82.6% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 102 of 127 first-time takers passed
95.8% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating
A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

- Employmentclass of 2025
99 of 130 (76.2%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission
Ten months after graduation · 11 more in JD-advantage jobs · 9 still seeking
The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

- First-year attrition2024-25
6.0% of the first-year class · 9 students
No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

Not a starting salary.
$74,737 median one year after finishing · $119,002 after four
$107,773 is the national median at four years for the same credential
A College Scorecard median for 2017-18 and 2018-19 completers who received federal aid, measured a fixed number of years after they finished — not what this year’s graduates are being paid, and not a figure the school or the ABA publishes. The ABA collects no salary data at all.

Essays
- Personal statementRequired · 3 pgstart by Nov 9, 2026
Notes & source
'The personal statement must be no more than three pages in length, typewritten, 12 point font, and double-spaced.' That is the whole instruction — Chapman publishes no prompt and assigns no topic, so no prompt is recorded, and nothing is said about generative AI. FORMATTING IS ENFORCED, which is unusual enough to matter: 'Note: If the application materials do not meet the requirements, there may be a delay in processing your file and a subsequent delay in placing your file into review.' A statement that breaks the page or font rule costs time in a rolling process. WHAT IT IS READ FOR: 'particular attention is paid to your writing skills exhibited in your LSAT writing sample, personal statement, and resume. The Committee is looking for applicants who are able to communicate ideas with precision and are able to think creatively.' The standards section adds that these documents 'allow the Committee to assess an applicant's qualitative measures, including but not limited to, their writing ability, judgment and maturity' and that it 'will consider personal accomplishments, obstacles overcome, unique skills and characteristics that contribute to the diversity of the Law School community.' NO OTHER ESSAY IS REQUIRED: Chapman publishes no perspective or diversity statement, no why-school essay, and no optional essay prompt — but it does actively invite addenda, which is where the extra writing goes at this school. See the addendum entry.

- AddendumOptionalstart by Nov 27, 2026
Notes & source
CHAPMAN INVITES ADDENDA MORE ACTIVELY THAN ALMOST ANY SCHOOL IN THIS DATA SET, and names two kinds explicitly. (1) GPA: 'Applicants are encouraged to submit GPA addenda if there are unusual trends in grades, multiple withdrawals from courses or any other circumstances that benefit from additional explanation.' Multiple course withdrawals are called out by name, which few schools do. (2) LSAT: 'Applicants are also encouraged to submit LSAT addenda to their applications if a lower LSAT score should be considered irregular and detail the reasons and evidence for such irregularity. The Committee will take these written addenda into account when reviewing the application.' Note the standard being set — 'reasons and evidence', not merely an assertion. The standards section counts addenda among the components read in full: 'Each application is considered in its entirety, including the personal statement, resume... the LSAT writing sample and additional addenda that the candidate submits.' THEY MAY BE SENT AFTER SUBMISSION, which is a genuinely useful mechanic: 'If you have any additional information to provide after submitting your application to LSAC, you may email the addendum(s) to lawadmission@chapman.edu.' A THIRD, MANDATORY STATEMENT applies to one group: 'If you have been academically disqualified from another law school, please attach a statement with your electronic application completely explaining the circumstances. Also explain why you believe you possess the requisite ability to complete the course of study at Fowler School of Law by the nature of interim work, activity or studies indicating a stronger potential for law study.' No length limits are published for any of these. A BLUNT WARNING ON CANDOUR accompanies the whole application: 'Failure to disclose an act or event may be more significant, and lead to more serious consequences, than the act or event itself,' and the school 'reserves the right to revoke an offer based on material information disclosed after the offer of admission has been made.'

Letters & documents
- Letter of recommendation (1 of 2)Requiredstart by Nov 2, 2026
Notes & source
'Two letters of recommendation are required.' — step five of the five-step application. The ceiling comes from the standards section, which describes what the Committee reads: 'up to three letters of recommendation'. WHAT THEY SHOULD SAY AND WHO SHOULD WRITE THEM: 'the letters of recommendation should be positive and meaningful recommendations concerning the applicant's analytical skills, communication, and decision-making abilities. Typically, professors, academic administrators, advisors and employers are best able to address these qualities and characteristics.' No academic-versus-professional preference is imposed — four categories of writer are named as equally apt. Letters travel with the CAS report.

Notes & source
'Upload your Resume. The resume may include, but is not limited to, work experience, volunteer experience, extracurricular activities, etc.' No page limit or format requirement is published, so none is recorded — though the same processing warning applies to every uploaded document ('If the application materials do not meet the requirements, there may be a delay in processing your file'). The resume is read as a writing sample as well as a record: it is named alongside the LSAT writing sample and personal statement as where 'writing skills' are assessed.

- Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Nov 9, 2026
Notes & source
'Order a Credential Assembly Service report to be sent to Chapman University Fowler School of Law' — step four of five, and the route for transcripts, LSAT scores and letters alike. GRADUATE TRANSCRIPTS ARE WORTH SENDING even though they are not required: 'Applicants who have a graduate/professional degree prior to applying to law school or who are currently enrolled in such a program are encouraged to submit graduate level transcripts, as previous success in another graduate/professional program can be an additional factor for the Committee to consider.' WHAT THE COMMITTEE READS IN A TRANSCRIPT: 'trends in grades, academic performance over the course of the entire degree, the strength of the major and the difficulty of courses that students take,' plus 'an applicant's commitments outside of school related to employment, family or personal obligations and responsibilities.' NO BACHELOR'S-DEGREE REQUIREMENT, NO MINIMUM GPA, AND NO INTERNATIONAL OR ENGLISH-PROFICIENCY INSTRUCTIONS are published anywhere on the admission pages — recorded as silences. The only nod to international applicants is that admission letters may be sent 'via regular U.S. mail or international airmail'.

- LSAT or GRERequiredstart by Oct 1, 2026
Notes & source
LSAT ONLY IN PRACTICE, AND THE GRE IS NEVER MENTIONED — recorded as a silence about the GRE rather than as a refusal. No Chapman law page fetched on 2026-08-18 contains the word GRE, or any reference to JD-Next. Every test statement on the site is about the LSAT: the review 'takes into account all aspects of a candidate, including: undergraduate grade point average (UGPA) and academic record, recent LSAT performance...'. MULTIPLE SCORES — Chapman is unusually explicit both about what it sees and about what it uses: 'If an applicant takes the LSAT multiple times, the Committee will receive a Credential Assembly Service (CAS) report for the applicant that discloses all LSAT scores and the average of those scores. The Committee will rely primarily on the highest LSAT score when evaluating an application.' So every score and the average are visible, and the highest is what counts — with an addendum invited to explain a low one (see the addendum entry). THE LSAT WRITING SAMPLE IS READ, not merely required: it is named alongside the personal statement and resume as where 'particular attention is paid to your writing skills'. HOW MUCH THE SCORE MATTERS: 'While the LSAT and undergraduate cumulative GPA are very important to the process, there is no specific weight given to either score, nor is there a numerical index applied to the two scores.' No score-validity window and no last-acceptable administration is published. Chapman's 2025 ABA Standard 509 report reports all 153 first-year enrollees as LSAT admissions enrollees and prints no GRE or JD-Next row, consistent with an LSAT-only practice.

- Application feeOptionalat submission
Notes & source
NOTHING TO PAY, though the site never says so — the five-step application instructions and the deadlines block make no mention of a fee at all. The figure comes from Chapman's 2025 ABA Standard 509 report, which lists the application fee as $0. Recorded as required: false on that basis. NO FEE-WAIVER PROCESS IS PUBLISHED, and none is needed. LSAC's own CAS and Letter of Recommendation Service fees are separate and are not addressed by Chapman's pages.

- InterviewOptionalat submission
Notes & source
Recorded as the site's silence, not as a statement that Chapman does not interview. No Fowler School of Law admission page fetched on 2026-08-18 — the admission overview, the apply-now page with its five application steps, deadlines block, FAQ, standards for admission, and admission policies sections, or the ABA disclosures page — describes an admissions interview. The standards section lists what the Committee considers and no interview appears among the factors. The only interviews named anywhere on the site belong to the Career Services Office, which helps enrolled students 'prepare for interviews' with employers. Chapman does offer prospective applicants an open house or a private campus tour, neither described as part of the evaluation.
