What it costs, how graduates fare

Tuition2025-26

$49,500 full-time · plus $2,850 annual fees

Living expenses $32,765 on campus

Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance.

Bar passageclass of 2025

77.5%first-time−0.2

77.6% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 55 of 71 first-time takers passed

82.4% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

66 of 81 (81.5%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission

Ten months after graduation · 2 more in JD-advantage jobs · 6 still seeking

The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

First-year attrition2024-25

17.0% of the first-year class · 29 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

$107,773 is the national median at four years for the same credential

A College Scorecard median for 2017-18 and 2018-19 completers who received federal aid, measured a fixed number of years after they finished — not what this year’s graduates are being paid, and not a figure the school or the ABA publishes. The ABA collects no salary data at all.

Essays

  • Personal statementRequired · 3 pgstart by Jun 24, 2027
    Notes & source

'Personal statement of not more than three typewritten pages'. A REAL CEILING, NOT GUIDANCE: 'not more than' is one of the ceiling phrases docs/CURATION.md requires before a limit is recorded, so this is a straightforward page_limit 3 with no judgment call attached. NO PROMPT IS PUBLISHED -- the requirements list gives the length and nothing else, no question, no suggested contents, no format beyond 'typewritten'. What the school will do with it has to be read off the separate application-review-standards page, which describes the whole file rather than the essay: 'The Admissions Committee evaluates each application from a 'whole-person perspective' and gives attention to an array of factors, including undergraduate and graduate school records; the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) score(s); personal and professional accomplishments and goals; community activities and service; obstacles overcome; work experience; other indicators of academic ability; motivation to study law; and an appreciation of the qualities associated with being a member of Ave Maria School of Law and the legal profession.' That last clause is the closest thing here to a why-Ave-Maria signal, and it is a review criterion rather than an essay question -- no separate why_x_essay, perspective statement or optional essay is published, so those types are omitted rather than recorded as absent. Worth knowing for what an applicant chooses to write about: Ave Maria states its mission in confessional terms -- 'Ave Maria Law offers an outstanding legal education in fidelity to the Catholic faith' -- and reports that 61% of its students are Catholic.

  • AddendumOptionalstart by Jul 12, 2027
    Notes & source

CHARACTER AND FITNESS IS THE ONE WRITING OBLIGATION BEYOND THE PERSONAL STATEMENT, it is conditional, and Ave Maria frames it in unusually pointed terms -- recorded here because the taxonomy in docs/DATA.md has no character-and-fitness type. 'An applicant's character and fitness to practice law must be established as a prerequisite for licensure to practice law in any state. As a result, applicants should take care to respond fully and accurately to each question on the law school application. Applicants should be aware that, in conducting character and fitness investigations, bar authorities will request copies of a candidate's application for admission to law school to compare the information provided on the law school application with the information included in the bar licensure application. If discrepancies are found, bar authorities may conclude that such discrepancies demonstrate a lack of honesty, trustworthiness, diligence, or reliability so as to call into question the applicant's fitness for admission to the Bar.' The point being made is not about this application but about a document that will be read years later against another one. WHAT AN AFFIRMATIVE ANSWER REQUIRES: 'If the answer to any of the questions regarding character and fitness is affirmative, a full written explanation must be provided. Such explanations should include dates, circumstances and outcomes surrounding the incident(s).' A CONTINUING DUTY RUNS AFTER SUBMISSION: 'applicants must supplement their law school application whenever necessary to ensure that the answers are current and accurate.' Required is false because the obligation is conditional on an affirmative answer; no page or word limit is published, and no general-purpose addendum slot is offered for anything else, so an applicant with a score or transcript to explain has no published home for it here.

'Resume, detailing education, employment skills, honors, awards, and accomplishments.' Five content areas are named -- more direction than most schools give -- but no page limit, format or style guidance is published, so none is recorded.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by May 16, 2027
    Notes & source

LSAT ONLY, with a five-year validity window: 'Sit for the Law School Admission Test (LSAT). You may register online at www.lsac.org or from the Law School Admissions Council at (215) 968-1001 (score must be within five years).' NO GRE AND NO JD-NEXT ROUTE: neither is mentioned anywhere on Ave Maria's admissions pages, and the 2025 509 prints a single LSAT row covering all 165 enrollees with no GRE or JD-Next row at all. Under docs/CURATION.md the silence on the site is not itself a denial, but the filing shows no alternative route was used in practice either. THE SCHOOL HAS PUBLISHED A DEDICATED PAGE ON LSAC'S RETURN TO IN-PERSON TESTING, which is useful because it answers the question applicants actually ask: 'Beginning with the August 2026 administration, the Law School Admission Council will deliver the LSAT primarily at approved in-person testing centers rather than through remote at-home testing.' The exam is unchanged -- 'The skills tested, the structure of the exam, the timing, and the score scale all remain the same' -- and so is Ave Maria's reading of it: 'Will Ave Maria School of Law evaluate scores differently because of this? No. We will continue to review LSAT results in the same way we always have.' Remote testing survives only as an accommodation: 'Remote testing will be available for certain approved medical or extreme hardship accommodations.' The change starts with the August 2026 administration; 'Students taking the April or June 2026 exams will follow the current process.' NO MINIMUM SCORE is published, and no policy on multiple scores -- neither a highest-score rule nor an averaging rule appears anywhere, which is a real gap at a school whose 25th-to-75th LSAT band is 152-158.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Jun 24, 2027
    Notes & source

Three separate items on the requirements list cover the academic record: 'Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university'; 'Subscribe to the Credential Assembly Service (CAS)'; and 'Transcripts from any post-secondary institution of education must be sent directly to the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC).' Note the scope -- any post-secondary institution, not merely degree-granting ones. No minimum GPA is published and no major is preferred; the review-standards page lists 'undergraduate and graduate school records' among many factors without setting a floor. A PRIOR LAW SCHOOL TRIGGERS EXTRA DOCUMENTS, filed alongside the character-and-fitness explanation rather than as part of the ordinary transcript requirement: 'if the answer to the question regarding prior matriculation is affirmative, a full written explanation must be provided, together with an official transcript and an official letter of standing to Ave Maria School of Law. Transcripts may be sent directly to LSAC or Ave Maria School of Law from the previous law school. A letter of standing may be sent directly to Ave Maria Law from the previous law school.'

  • Letter of recommendationRequiredstart by Jun 17, 2027
    Notes & source

ONE LETTER, AND IT HAS AN EXPIRY DATE: 'One recent letter of recommendation (within two years).' A single required letter is at the low end of what law schools ask, and the two-year freshness rule is rarer still -- most schools set no age limit on a letter at all, so an applicant reusing a letter from an undergraduate professor several years back would satisfy the count and fail the recency condition here. No maximum is published, so no count_accepted is recorded, and no guidance is given about who should write: Ave Maria names no preferred category of recommender and rules none out.

Administrative

  • InterviewOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

AVE MARIA DESCRIBES AN INTERVIEW AS PART OF ITS PROCESS, IN ONE SENTENCE AND NOWHERE ELSE: 'Our application and interview process is a holistic review and one in which we endeavor to learn as much as we can about our prospective students.' That is the whole of it. The school does not say whether the interview is required, invited by the committee, requested by the applicant, evaluative or informational; it does not appear in the application-requirements list, and no scheduling page, format or timing is published. Recorded as required false because nothing obliges an applicant to interview on the school's own words -- but recorded at all, rather than omitted, because the school affirmatively states that an interview process exists, which under docs/CURATION.md is a published fact about the process even though it is an incomplete one. Worth an email to admissions; an applicant cannot tell from the site whether to expect a call.

  • Application feeOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

NO APPLICATION FEE. The school's 2025 ABA Standard 509 certifies 'Application fee none' -- spelled out as a word rather than as $0, which is how this school files it. Ave Maria's own admissions pages say nothing about a fee in either direction, so the filing is the only source and is cited as such; this is one of the few facts in this file that comes from the regulator rather than the school's site. No waiver process is published, which follows from there being nothing to waive. LSAC's own CAS and report fees are separate and Ave Maria does not address them.
