What it costs, how graduates fare

Tuition2025-26

$52,536 full-time · plus $1,050 annual fees

$31,794 part-time

Tuition and the fees the school certifies alongside it — not a full cost of attendance.

Bar passageclass of 2025

63.8%first-time−16.0

79.8% is the average for all ABA-accredited schools’ graduates in the same jurisdictions this school’s graduates sat in · 67 of 105 first-time takers passed

90.0% of the class of 2023 were admitted within two years of graduating

A pass rate on its own says as much about which states a school feeds as about the school, so the ABA’s own like-for-like average is shown with it.

Employmentclass of 2025

73 of 101 (72.3%) in full-time, long-term jobs requiring bar admission

Ten months after graduation · 7 more in JD-advantage jobs · 7 still seeking

The ABA collects employment status and job type only. It collects no salary, so no salary figure comes from this filing.

First-year attrition2024-25

22.0% of the first-year class · 30 students

No law school publishes a graduation rate, so this is not one. It is the students who left in their first year, academic and other, as filed. Transfers out are reported separately and are not counted here.

$107,773 is the national median at four years for the same credential

A College Scorecard median for 2017-18 and 2018-19 completers who received federal aid, measured a fixed number of years after they finished — not what this year’s graduates are being paid, and not a figure the school or the ABA publishes. The ABA collects no salary data at all.

  • Personal statementRequired · 3 pgstart by Jun 29, 2027

At Atlanta's John Marshall Law School, we value authenticity and originality in the personal statements submitted as part of the application process. Your personal statement is an opportunity to share your unique voice, experiences, and aspirations with the Admissions Committee.

    Notes & source

Required, and listed in the same line as the résumé: 'A 2-3 page personal statement and one page resume (as an electronic attachment with the application or as an e-mail attachment to admissions@johnmarshall.edu).' RECORDED AT THE TOP OF THE RANGE. '2-3 page' has no ceiling phrase of the kind docs/CURATION.md requires ('no longer than', 'not exceed'), but it is prescriptive rather than descriptive -- it appears in a list headed 'Applicants are required to submit the following materials', not as advice -- which is the South Dakota judgment call in that doc. Three is recorded because it is the top of the prescribed range and a three-page statement is compliant on the school's own words; the range itself is quoted here so a reader can see the school also expects two to be enough. AJMLS PUBLISHES AN EXPLICIT AI POLICY FOR THIS ESSAY, which is still unusual enough to be worth quoting in full: 'While we recognize the increasing prevalence of AI tools, it is important that the content of your personal statement is written in your own words and reflects your genuine thoughts and experiences. Statements that rely on AI-generated content are often evident to our reviewers and may detract from your application's overall impact. We strongly encourage you to embrace this opportunity to showcase your individuality and writing skills. Authenticity and self-expression are essential traits for success in the legal profession, and your personal statement is a first step in demonstrating these qualities.' Note what it is and is not: a statement of values and a warning about impact, not a prohibition with a stated consequence, and no certification or attestation is required. NO WHY-AJMLS QUESTION, no perspective statement and no optional essay is published anywhere in the required-materials list, so those types are omitted rather than recorded as absent. Submission is unusually flexible -- the statement may be attached to the application or simply emailed to the admissions address.

  • AddendumOptionalstart by Jul 17, 2027
    Notes & source

AJMLS PUBLISHES NO GENERAL ADDENDUM SLOT AND NO CHARACTER-AND-FITNESS QUESTION SET on its admissions pages. What it does publish is a specific, unusually explicit disclosure rule about criminal history that gates completeness, and it is recorded here because the taxonomy in docs/DATA.md has no character-and-fitness type: 'Atlanta's John Marshall Law School believes in giving opportunities to underrepresented categories of applicants, which includes those with a criminal history. However, applicants with open pending charges in any jurisdiction, current incarceration, open probation supervision, and/or open parole supervision will not be able to have their application completed and reviewed until documentation can be provided showing that all open matters are resolved. This documentation must be court issued and must show compliance with all stipulations imposed by the Court's sentence.' That paragraph appears twice, on the Apply page and the Application Process page. It is worth reading as written: the bar is on OPEN matters, and the requirement is court-issued documentation of resolution, not an explanatory essay. A closed record is expressly not a bar here -- the school opens the paragraph by saying so. Required is false because the obligation is conditional. The school separately gives the standard bar-admission warning: 'In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction.' RETURNING STUDENTS START OVER: 'Students who previously attended Atlanta's John Marshall Law School (AJMLS), and have not been in attendance at AJMLS for more than one year, must complete the admissions process in the same manner as any other applicant... It is essential that all time and activity since the student's previous enrollment be accounted for in the new application.'

Required and capped at one page, in the same sentence as the personal statement: 'A 2-3 page personal statement and one page resume (as an electronic attachment with the application or as an e-mail attachment to admissions@johnmarshall.edu).' No content guidance is published -- no named sections, no format or style requirement. One page is a firm figure rather than a range, which is why it is recorded where the statement's '2-3' needed a judgment call. Worth noting against this school's applicant mix: AJMLS runs two part-time divisions aimed at working adults and reports an average part-time entering age of 32, so a one-page cap lands on a population with more history to compress than most.

  • LSAT or GRERequiredstart by May 21, 2027
    Notes & source

THE LSAT IS MANDATORY AND NOTHING SUBSTITUTES FOR IT. 'All applicants are required to take the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT) and to have their test scores reported to the Law School. The score must be no more than five years old at the time an application is considered by the Admissions Committee.' Note the validity window runs from committee review, not from application. NO GRE ROUTE: the GRE is not mentioned on any AJMLS admissions page and no GRE row appears in the 2025 509. Under docs/CURATION.md that silence is not a denial, but 'All applicants are required to take the LSAT' is an affirmative statement that leaves no alternative. JD-NEXT IS ACCEPTED AS A SUPPLEMENT ONLY, UNDER AN ABA VARIANCE, AND THE SCHOOL HAS PUBLISHED AN UNUSUALLY CANDID FAQ ABOUT IT: 'Atlanta's John Marshall Law School is pleased to announce a trial initiative for our admissions process. For a limited period, we will accept the JD-Next exam in addition to (at least) one LSAT score starting with Fall 2024 entry. This change is part of an experimental variance granted by the American Bar Association and is subject to review and alteration at our discretion. The committee will treat your JD-Next score as a complimentary factor and it will not replace the LSAT requirement at this time.' Neither test is weighted ahead of the other -- 'Is one exam given preference or more weight than the other? Not at this time' -- and the trial can end without notice: 'The Law School reserves the right to terminate this trial initiative and revert to previous admission test requirements at any time.' THE ASYMMETRY ON RECONSIDERATION IS THE PRACTICAL POINT, and it cuts against spending $250 on JD-Next after a denial: 'In the event an applicant is denied admission, a file will not be reconsidered by a change in JD-NEXT score but may be reconsidered by a change in LSAT score. This policy may change over time as data becomes available but is not guaranteed during the trial initiative.' The bundled JD-Next course, exam and score reports cost $250. THE 509 PRINTS NO JD-NEXT ROW despite the variance -- all 138 first-years are certified as LSAT admissions enrollees -- which is consistent with JD-Next being supplementary here rather than a route of entry.

  • Transcripts via LSAC CASRequiredstart by Jun 29, 2027
    Notes & source

A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IS A STATED CONDITION, WITH A WARNING ABOUT ACCREDITATION: 'Admission to the Juris Doctor program requires a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. We highly encourage prospective students to check with their undergraduate institution regarding its accreditation status. Students with senior year undergraduate standing may be considered for admission, provided their degree will be conferred prior to law school matriculation.' CAS IS REQUIRED: 'Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Applicants must request that the transcripts be sent directly to the Law School Admission Council (LSAC). All applicants must register with the LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS) and have a CAS Report sent to AJMLS.' (The sentence on the live page ends '...sent to AJMLS by the individual writing the letter', which reads as an editing slip carried over from the letters paragraph below it; the requirement itself is unambiguous and the stray clause is quoted here rather than silently repaired.) THE HARD TRANSCRIPT DEADLINE HAS A STATED CONSEQUENCE, and it bites after classes have already started: 'All official transcripts verifying all academic credits undertaken and degree(s) conferred must be received by the Law School by October 15th. A student who has failed to submit their official undergraduate transcripts by October 15 will be automatically withdrawn from classes.' Automatic withdrawal is a sharper sanction than most schools publish for the same lapse. LSAC IS PREFERRED BUT NOT COMPULSORY, which is rare: 'The Office of Admissions prefers and recommends the use of the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) for application and document processing. Students who are unable to utilize the LSAC service may submit their downloaded application and documents electronically or via mail. Regardless of submission method, all applicants are considered equally based upon their application materials.' The school explains why the alternative exists, and names an accessibility failure that is not its own: 'the LSAC website is not currently accessible for visually impaired applicants using screen readers.'

  • Letter of recommendation (1 of 2)Requiredstart by Jun 22, 2027
    Notes & source

'Two letters of recommendation that address the applicant's character, academic ability, and potential for successful completion of a rigorous law school program.' Three subjects are named, which is more direction than most schools give a recommender. DELIVERY IS EITHER WAY: 'Letters may be sent to LSAC to be included with the CAS report, or mailed directly to AJMLS' -- consistent with this school's general willingness to take materials outside the LSAC pipeline. ONE CATEGORY OF AUTHOR IS RULED OUT BY NAME: 'Letters from family members may not be used as one of the two mandatory letters.' Read precisely, that bars a family letter from filling a required slot rather than barring it outright, and the school publishes no cap on additional letters, so no count_accepted is recorded.

  • Application feeOptionalat submission
    Notes & source

NO APPLICATION FEE, stated on the Apply page and certified in the filing. 'Prospective students applying for regular J.D. admissions (full-time or part-time programs), visiting admissions, or transfer admissions must apply via www.LSAC.org. There is no application fee to apply to Atlanta's John Marshall Law School.' The 2025 509 agrees: 'Application fee 0'. Note the scope of that sentence -- it covers J.D., visiting and transfer applicants alike, and audit applicants are handled off-menu ('Audit applicants, please email admissions@johnmarshall.edu for further information'). No waiver process is published because there is nothing to waive; LSAC's own CAS and report fees are separate and AJMLS does not address them.
